View Full Version : Pioneer 545 - Widescreen switching problem?

My 545 refuses to switch my TV to the correct aspect ratio when there is a device plugged into its 2nd scart socket.

My setup is wired as follows-

Digibox ---- Tivo ----- 545 ------ TV AV1 (RGB).

If i turn off the Tivo so the 545 has no input on its 2nd scart then everything works fine.
If i leave it on then the 545 outputs whatever aspect ratio its receiving on the 2nd scart!!

example - watching channel 5 broadcasting a 4:3 programme....fire up the 545 with a 16:9 dvd in and it will come on screen BUT stay as 4:3.
Watch the DVD for a while and eventually it will switch to 16:9 - this coincides with the widescreen adverts on channel 5.....BLOODY WEIRD!

Of course i could just set the correct a/r when i watch a dvd but i can't be arsed :D
Before i added the Tivo i used to kill the power to the digibox (x10 - pronto macro) so i've never noticed this before.

Is this a case of tragic engineering by Pioneer? Do i have a duff unit?
Any advice appreciated.

UPDATE I also posted this question in avforums and 2 people in there have stated that their pioneers don't suffer from the same problem.
Hopefully its just a slight hardware fault with mine.

Not a hardware fault, I`ve already replied on the other thread re this. The daisychain is there only for use once the pioneers in standby (same for any other DVD player with 2 scarts). if you have multiple devices connected first before Av2, and they all enable dataswitching, and you are using fully wired scarts, then you will have this sort of issue! You state above you used to power down (standby) the other stuff and didn`t have this problem before, so thats your answer:)

When watching DVDs, make sure that your daisychained stuff is in standby, as some Tvs (mainly Philips and clones) do NOT like multiple signals!

Easy way to test your DVD player, check what your setup menu says, and play the discs without anything connected to AV2, I think you`ll find its a case of your TV getting confused. personally I run mine in 16:9 all the time, as never use the integrial tuner, just Skyplus and my Nokia Satscan 9800 box :)

Answer there, but to recap closing this thread here, DVD player is fine, "problem" only occures on NTSC R1 discs, Tv looking for data flag on scart for NTSC discs, as Tv set to auto mode detect defaults to 4:3 / loopthrough data from powered up gear on AV2 when flag not detected :)

Well tis only a minor disappointment to an otherwise excellent player so i won't be sticking it in the classifieds just yet...... :D

Still think its a shame its not as "FINE (http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=30887&referrerid=6094)" as the 636 in this respect :)
