View Full Version : Deleted Photo Recovery - Just Deleted Loads of Photos!
I just lost all of the photos I took today for my friends 30th birthday! :(
Is there anyway I can recover them? I'm sure I've heard about ways to do so even though I've deleted them.
I'm using a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W170.
Many thanks,
Psycho
I've used this one successfully http://www.z-a-recovery.com/demo-ir.htm

I've used PC Inspector smart recovery a number of times on SD cards.

I've also used PC Inspector succesfully. Also, some cards e.g. certain Sandisk, come with file recovery software.
Hi,
Thanks for the replies.
I forgot to say that I'm using a Mac. I found a programme called Stellar Phoenix and I ran that. I listed all the photos that were deleted but when I tried to recover them it said I had to pay! :(
I'm hoping to do this for free.

EDIT: I could use my parents PC laptop.

Are using this on Vista?
I just installed it on my parents laptop and got the following message:
Run-time Error '339': Component 'gif89.dll' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid

I've decided to go with this one.
Just running it now.
I take it that when I come to selecting the photos that I want that I don't get a preview?

I don't know why but I had this one saved among my favourites, never used it myself:

Thanks for that.
I couldn't seem to get it to install on my Mac. I got a folder but it just had blank icons for the programme files.
I'll stick with the one on the PC for now but it would be nice to have a free one for the Mac.

Is it right that I can recover some but not all of the photos?
I've got almost all of them from last night but there are about 5 missing. It was able to recover holiday photos that I deleted months ago!
Do different programmes recover different amounts of photos or is what I've got all that I'm going to get?
40 out of 45 photos is better than none though!
Thanks,

Depends if you have written over them, simply putting the card in and out of the reader can do this.
Basically when you delete a file you just delete the bit that shows it is there hence the recovery options available but if you actually write over that space with something else then it is a different story.

No, XP.
Do different programmes recover different amounts of photos or is what I've got all that I'm going to get?ime, yes, most definitely - backup to external what you've recovered already, and try a couple more apps.
Just resurrecting this thread as a friend of mine just lost all her New Zealand photos and they remembered that I managed to recover deleted photos in the past... she was the one who deleted mine!
Are there any new programmes I should check out? I've got access to a Windows laptop but if I could do it on my home Mac then that would be better.
Many thanks,

thank god for recovery software! my memory card crapped itself in the 2nd to last day of a 3 week trip in china in 2k8 and the camera couldn't see the piccies. got all but 2 back out of about 2000
since then i back up the mem card to my netbook daily on hols. only downside of digital IMO. losing the card and all photos as opposed to just 1 out of 13 rolls of film.
Probably not the best time to be doing this as I've had a splitting head ache all day!
I've got my friends Fuji Film FinePix F30 camera and I'm trying to recover the missing files.
I'm using an Apply Mac OSX but when I plug the camera in I'm not getting an icon for it on the desktop. I can only access it via Image Capture or iPhoto.
I downloaded Photo Recovery for Digital Media from the Apple website:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/photorecoveryfordigitalmedia.html
But it won't let me select the camera!
I did try and use PhotoRec but it doesn't seem to run like a normal programme and I just gave up try to get it to work:

Can anyone help?
Thanks,

Can you remove the card form the camera and put it in a reader?
