View Full Version : Samsung TV, default to HDMI?

I had Sky+ HD installed this morning, great picture :)

Does anyone know how to make a Samsung LCD default to HDMI when you turn it on? It's going to drive me nuts otherwise!

For example. TV is on HDMI viewing Sky, turn the tv to Standby, turn it bcak on and it goes to AV1 which has nothing connected so has the "no signal" screen. I then have to keep pressing the AV button to get to HDMI2 (as the R/C has no direct button to select HDMI input).

Anyone any ideas?

Not sure. My Samsung defaults to HDMI. Do you have anything connected to AV1?

Mine defaults to whatever channel it was on when I turned it off

Yes and that was the answer. Despite the device connected to AV1 being switched off it still took priority. I have unplugged the device and the TV comes on to HDMI now. Bit of a pain as I don't want to be reaching behind the TV pulling cables all the time.

Maybe it's a good excuse to upgrade my 18 month old TV? ;)

Or get yourself one of the Logitech remotes that will ensure it is always on the right input for the device you want to use  I got the Harmony 555 and to watch Sky without it I'd have to turn on 3 devices (TV, Sky box and HiFi), the Harmony ensures the Sky box is turned on first, then the TV (set to HDMI1) then the hifi (set to Phono).

Yes having to toggle through the inputs was real drag on my samsung until I got a Harmony remote.

Yep, another vote for a Harmony here. There *are* discrete codes for each of the inputs, they're just not made available on the provided remotes. The Harmony makes the whole thing simpler (and the 525 -which I use with my Samsung - was available for £30 if you look in the bargain forum)

I use the Harmony on my Samsung, only problem i have is i can not get a discrete code for my component input, everything else is perfect

Got this sorted now. I cut the cable in the scart to pin 8, which is the switching voltage. Seems that the freeview box, even when off, is sending the switching voltage meaning the TV was defaulting to scart whether or not that was what I wanted! Now the cable is cut the TV defaults to whatever channel it was last on :)

No point getting an all singing r/c. I only really use the Sky HD and that operates the TV anyway.

i have the same never solved it, it will always go to AV1 (which has the tivo on) rather than HDMI 1 or 2.

it will also insist on showing AV2 which has nothing connected each time i cycle through stuff. But not HDMI1 which has the dvd, when not on.

any input change always involves 7 presses to get to the right channel.

Does the Sky box have an HDMI control option? On both my blu-ray and HD-DVD players there is an option which "links" them to the telly - so if I switch on my S350 it turns on the TV (a Samsung) and selected HDMI2 automatically.

don't think so

Now, the dvd player, through hdmi, will make the channel change to it when it goes on. thats a samsung.

the sky+HD(also samsung) doesn't appear to do this at all.

Even my oldest Sammy TV at home has a discrete code for component and that one is around 3 years old. As do both the other two that I have had.
