View Full Version : Korean, yes Korean, suppliers!!
UPDATED 4th Feb 2003
OK we now have a list of decent Korean suppliers thanks to Barry Woodcock's DVD Times Thread (http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/index.cgi?page=Feature&id=53&story=3862) and our own experiences through the Forums and especially Cirruss's Korean Films Thread (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72992).
In order of preference they are currently:
Yes Asia (http://global.yesasia.com/welcome.asp?tz=0&cid=225)
+ Good prices / Free shipping for orders over $49 / No customs as they re-ship from within the UK!!
- ??
Yeon DVD (http://www.yeondvd.com/)
+ Simply wonderful service / Will order disc for you / Very good at answering e-mails
- No visa payments / need PayPal
DVD Asian (http://www.dvdasian.com/)
+ Good selection / Regular offers
- Bit pricey compared to the above
Mr Kwang (http://www.mrkwang.com/)
+ Friendly
- Ebay?
kr DVD (http://www.krdvd.com/)
+
- ?? lost orders / PayPal only / Limited selection
Korean DVDs (http://www.koreandvds.com/)
+ Great selection / Often have stuff oop with the above e-tailers
- ?? lost orders be very careful until further notice
This will be updated accordingly if we become aware of any offers or indeed service problems ;)
Post here to inform me
The following was the original post:
I am after Taxi 1 & 2 and according to Rewind the Korean versions are the ones to go for as they are anamorphic and DTS (yum yum buggle gum :p ) but I am struggling to find them :(. I have tried a few including www.yeondvd.com (Korean e-tailer with english translation) but with no success.
DVDAsian (http://www.dvdasian.com) have them. I haven't used them before, so I've no idea what they are like as a supplier.

I need a translater for the site though :(
Thaks everyone - I've actually ordered Taxi 1 from http://www.yeondvd.com who were very helpful. It looks as if the R3 is an acceptable chioce for the second film.

If you mean the HK Universe, I dunno. I got it and was disappointed by the picture quality. Anamorphic it may be, but compression artifacts aplenty, and seems soft. Just my opinion.
Edit: While mentioning YEONDVD, I used them and can wholeheartedly recommend them. Order placed on 12th, shipped on 14th (Korean date - delay due to holiday season) Got them on monday the 18th, safely packaged and with a nice personal thank you note.
Choices are low, and they only seem to accept paypal, but communication is great.
Yes yeondvd seem very helpful and repply to e-mails quickly and politely ;). Did you post over at uk.media as I saw a post today saying the R3 of Taxi 2 was poor quality? It was enough for me to cancel my coolashop order and go for both from yeon.

lorenzo - Late reply, but no I didn't post over at the other fourm. Wasn't ignoring you.
Do www.dvd.co.kr (http://www.dvd.co.kr) ship internationally ? CANNOT find any mention of shipping on their site using Babelfish.
Ta.
Looked at the yendvd site but caanot see taxi/taxi 2 anywhere.
Where are these films on the site?
zenza - e-mail them. They did me Taxi 1 and 2 for $45 including delivery. I have the e-mail if you need it but I'm sure you wont. You will need to pay by PayPal or send a cheque. If you pay by paypal they send you a US maiol address. Mail me if you need further assistance.
Yesasia.com are my supplier of choice now.:notworthy
YA's doipatch time have been getting slower and slower. Use to be less than 24 hours, my last order took 3-4 days :oh-hum:

I disagree - pricing is competitive and if you spend over US$50 per order you get free shipping.
Also because they re-ship from within the UK Customs charges are not an issue.
Have used YeonDVD for several purchases and found them to be excellent. Even in the run up to Christmas, orders placed with them arrived within 7/10 days.
Can someone clarify which suppliers are Korean and which are HKL???
I am mega-confused

As far as I am aware YeonDVD only sell Korean releases ( usually Region 3 but sometimes All Region and Region 1 coded )

I ordered 3 DVD's (Hana-Bi, The Tin Drum and The Third Man) from them 2 weeks ago and they are now in Denmark (at the customs office - they want an invoice, so I've to pay VAT and fee :( ), so I will use them again, but only one DVD in each order.
Don't forget Sayodvd (http://www.sayodvd.com)

I wouldn't regard mrkwang being an ebay seller as a minus. Very good supplier IMO. Decent prices, quick delivery and (from the two times I have used him to get Korean LE's) very good packaging. I can't remember if he marked the packages as gift or merchandise, but I didn't get stung by customs.

Used them once.
Ordered what they advertised as the Lover's Concert LE 2-disc edition, but they shipped the single disc release. After lots of promises to fix it they stopped answering my emilas, and in the end I took it to my CC company, who refunded the money, and AFAIK got a refund from azn.
Won't use them again.
i've ised Mr Kwang for certain korean le dvds and never had any problems, yeondvd are also good for getting some (apparantly) OOP dvds, no blood no tears being a good example.

I've ordered a few times from mrkwang when he was an ebay seller (he has his own proper site now) and they all arrived in less than a week.
I use yeondvd for getting titles that places like yesasia say are oop.
Thanks, shipping was certainly fast.
