Anybody in here a fan of this series?
I have to say it is one of my all time favourite shows. Just noticed last weekend it is showing on Granada plus every day 3pm and 8pm.
James Garner is a compelling actor in this role.
Every episode has some nice twists - a femme fatale deceives Rockford and he ends up unpaid!
Amazing to see so many famous stars in early roles.
The golden era of US tv.
I have enduring memories of watching his lovely brown car (pontiac?) cruise all over sunlit California late on Saturday nights in the late 70s (on ITV of course!)
Only beaten by Columbo.

One of my favourite TV shows from the 70’s is Rockford Files.
Columbo and Hawaii Five-O as well. Waiting for the complete
Series’ to come out on dvd.

I have the first two Columbo dvd’s and one Rockford Files
Video.

Hungry for more.

That's the only terrestrial channel it's been on. Some of the later TV films are frequently shown on Sky Movies.

James Garner is a fine actor and I have to agree that Rockford Files is one of TVs highpoints although those 90s TV movie comebacks were a bad idea. Check out Barbarians at the Gate for a fantastic performance from JG.

I thought it was ITV. Was it definitely the BeeB? I seemed to remember ads during it - but hey it was over 20 years ago!

I don't really watch it but I love the theme tune!

For the last few years BBC1 has shown The Rockford Files on weekdays in its after Neighbours slot (yes, i was a student :D ). They used to alternate between a series of The Rockford Files, then Quincy, then Ironside, then briefly Columbo, and then Bergerac :(

"The Rockford Files" was by far the best American cop show of the seventies, largely thanks to James Garner - an actor who has always been worth watching - and some surprisingly good writing. It would be nice to have on DVD come to think of it; it would bring back memories of Monday early evenings 25 years ago.

Kudos should also go to Mike Post and Pete Carpenter for the great theme and recurring character Angelplayed by Stuart Margolin who directed some episodes and went on to become a writer/director of some accomplishment.

While we’re on the subject, how about Magnum Pi on DVD? How come we get Airwolf and A-Team but no Rockford and no Magnum - it aint fair.

Starting with the now classic answer machine message

This is Jim Rockford at the tone leave your message I'll get back to you

The Rockford Files is still for me one of the best detective shows ever to have been made for television and comes from an era of classic tv detective shows.

Each of the 125 episodes made is still a worthwhile watch and now that it is being shown on Granada+ I am attempting to record all of the shows.

It great to see that James Garner made some featue length tv movies also ... while some of these are brilliant other are so-so, still any Rockford is ok in my book.

Sadly there are no Rockford Files on DVD as yet, hopefully this will change sometime.

Is The Rockford Files the show where the lead character (JG of course) keeps getting hit on the head and knocked out ?

Only reason this comes to mind is because i remember my dad, who's a big fan of all the seventies cop shows (The Rockford Files in particular), laughing at one where the detective was always about to discover something in each episode and then BOOM smack on the head!

Was it this one or was it a different series ?

Have to agree The Rockford Files was a very good show but the best of the very best has to be Hill Street Blues. HSB has to be my favourite and I must have watched all the shows from the 70's/80's. Here's a salute to

Kojak, Streets of San Francisco, Ironside, Columbo, Barretta, Magnum, CHiPs, Cagney & Lacey, Starskey & Hutch, Hawaii 5-O,
Banacheck, Hart to Hart, Harry-O, Charlies Angels, Matlock, Cannon, Barnaby Jones.

Tut tut! You haven't mentioned Quincy! Go stand in the corner   :D

Whilst i've seen and liked a lot of the US 70's cop shows my favourite cop show overall, by miles, is The Sweeney.

I absolutely love it and could watch it forever. Absolute classic
'Alright you SLAGS! We're The Sweeney and we haven't had our DINNER!' :D

Anyone know if there's any sign of The Sweeney boxset which was supposed to be coming out ?

That's just great jonathan, thanks.

I was racking my brains and there were two shows I couldn't remember and Pertrocelli was one of them. The other one had Street in the title (like Onedin Street) and the principle character was blind.

I've just thought of another one set in Las Vegas that I can't remember the title of.

Each to their own.

Agree that Petrocelli was cool.

Mr Woo, didn't like Quincy all that much so didn't make my list.

I think the one set in Vegas was called........ Vegas!
Robert Urich in the main role as Dan Tanna - what a cool name. He had a lovely open top red sports car.
