Yeah.. need to replace my terminal Panasonic 610.

What are the current VCR favourites? My initial thought is another Panasonic - always had a good name in VCRs. There are a couple of well-featured, good-looing Sonys about.. what is their performance like?

Panasonics are superb players, but tend to breakdown very easily. We have a sony 810 and a hitachi 880, both recommended. (although if you shop around you can get s-vhs players very cheap now....)

You could always go for TIVO or Sky+. But if you want to stary with a VCR, try the Panny 710. With a tape library and the ability to control a digibox it's as close as you can get to a PVR.

Yeah, the 710 is £160 in PowerHouse.. might go for that.

I used to buy and record from TV a lot of movies but since getting used to the higher quality of DVD, it's just not worth it anymore. I have loads of tapes sitting on the shelf gathering dust.

When my video died last year, I went for TiVo instead and it really does change the way you watch TV. You can still record films onto tape via TiVo if you want to keep them.

The picture quality as far superior to even S-VHS and without the audio/visual dropouts associated with tape. On top of that, no more trying to find a blank tape with room for a recording, remembering where you put the tape with last week's Eastenders etc etc.

Video is dead, long live the PVR!!

A couple of people in the semi-pro video business have recommended Pannys to me before, so at 160 sounds like a bargain.
