On BBC 2 this week. Think it's Thursday late on. Supposed to be a minor classic - set that recorder!

I don't think I would personally rank it as a classic of any standard but it is interesting. James Toback is incapable of writing a bland screenplay, James Caan is great and Karel Reisz has a good eye for the unconventional aspects of the setting.

For a much better gambling movie though, wait for the next TV showing or (please God) DVD release of Altman's virtually forgotten California Split.

Never heard of that Altman movie - I'll check it out.
My favourite Altman has to be 'McCabe and Mrs Miller' - it is a visual feast - doubt if it is out on dvd - think I'll go and check!

Not out on any region, sadly, although we can hope for a special edition DVD release. It's my favourite Altman film too :)

Mike -
Have u got the Leonard Cohen album which features the music from the film?
Very atmospheric - conjures up the snowbound scenes and the muddy browns of the town.
