Thought Wii Sports Resort would be first for the MP but it seems like this is going to beat it by a month. Was pondering Virtual Tennis 2009 (also compatible with MP) but I like the look of this game and the extensive list of classic players.
Hope the MotionPlus is actually decent enough to make a difference.
Anyone got this? Thoughts?
Some on the Wii thread but my views:
Never before have I initally been more undecided about a game. Been backwards and forwards about whether I hate it or like it.
Graphically, it is very nice actually. Rather similar to Team Fortress 2. The characters have a very good likeness and also their actions/styles are well done. Nice and simple menus and loads of other stuff I haven't really had time to explore.
In terms of how it plays, I was just not sure. I do play tennis in real life (quite decent actually) and I was hoping that WMP would give me a good simulation of playing actual shots with the wiimote (& WMP) in the game. It does to a point. I can play topspins, slice etc, but if you put yourself fully into the game by actually playing real swings - the Wiimote doesn't register them very well. My biggest issue is that playing a forehand/backhand seems to be hit and miss as your character moves automatically. To add to that, several times I triggered a shot whilst on the backswing - hence missing the ball altogether!
I did persevere though and, for all its faults, I do think it is a very good game now. Enjoyment increased when I started on a Grand Slam tour with my own character.
Multiplayer is also fine with the split screen game not overly hindered by the smaller viewing area.
Finally, playing does give a decent workout. You can easily break sweat in some matches.
Well worth buying IMHO.

Cheers for that - i loved wii sports tennisbut found the controls far too simple after a while - does this have far more to it?
Yep. Lots more.
You begin to realise how good it is when you actually start pretending you have a real ball in your hand when serving :D
It does take time to get use to it - but once you get it - it plays "ace" (bad pun intended  )

Surely plugging in the Nunchuk resolves this, as it allows you to control your player around the court?

No, it gets in the way of the swing.

Nunchuk extension cable? (http://www.bestofferbuy.com/Nunchuck-Extension-Cable-for-Wii-p-10623.html?currency=GBP&utm_source=gbase&utm_medium=cse&utm_campaign=gbase)

Haven't played it a lot with the nunchuk but the few times I have, I agree that it gets in the way.
Really liking this more and more. It helps when you RTFM and see that the WMP should be calibrated between rallies

Surprised no ones mentioned that Virtua Tennis is out now and if reviews are to be trusted works miles better with the motion plus thing.

I would say it needs to be calibrated between shots!!
I get lots of dodgy swings if I don't remember to bring the WM+ in front of me and hold it straight and level after every shot. Doing that keeps the WM+ calibrated 90% of the time but there are still some times when the player makes a shot while I am swinging the WM+ back.
Overall though, I would still recommend it and as an early indication of the capability of WM+, it is quite promising.
Looking forward to giving the new Tiger Woods a go with WM+ now.

I thought so but I wasn't sure there was enough time to do that. I find it hard enough to re-calibrate between rallies when I'm not serving ;)

TW's use of WM+ is superb. Though TW was built to use 1:1 fully which Grand Slam Tennis, by EA's own admission, wasn't.

Ive bought a M+ purely for Woodsy, the reviews so far have me a little wet with anticipation.

I usually let the replay of the previous point play out for a few seconds before pressing A to move on. If I am too impatient I can often see my player holding the racquet out to his right hand side and that nearly always means an early waft as soon as I move the controller.

Nice too hear Adam, but doesn't it make it as tough as real golf then? Bad enough being disappointed every weekend on the course without it happening at home too!
Still looking forward to it.

Though not quite as much as Matt by the sounds of it;)
So i got this - am im not sure so far. Im not convinced at how much of a difference the motion plus controller makes, it certainly doesnt feel that responsive to me. Or does that mean im just not doing right?
Am i right in thinking the only difference it makes as well is in terms of slicing and spinning shots?
So are people saying that Virtua tennis is a better game on the Wii then?

I didn't find it quite as twitchy using WM+ but I just didn't like the overall look or feel of the game compared to GST

Stick with it, I wasn't too impressed to start with, but the more you practice, the better you get and the better the game gets.
Well, I bought this yesterday and had a quick half hour bash on my sister's Wii today to try it out - and I was TOTALLY unimpressed.
Try and play it like tennis (swing properly) and you haven't got a hope. Your player will often run nowhere near the ball, and several times I would be lined up for a forehand and the player would suddenly for no reasons switch positions to play a backhand and completely miss the ball.
I felt like throwing the remote through the TV.

Two things
1) IMHO, half an hour is nowhere near long enough to get used to the WM+.
2) And don't take this the wrong way but, are you holding the Wiimote correctly ? ie with the A button facing up NOT facing towards the TV
1) Oh I totally agree. I intend to give it a lot more time when I get into my own place.
2) Ah, errrrrr, I didn't know that. You might have a point there :suspect:

Made the same mistake at first til I noticed the position of the Wiimote in one of the 'loading' screens.

i still cannot make my mind up wheather I should buy this or not. Gamespot say "Unforgiving controls with little assistance to improve Steep learning curve " then I read
Gametrailers: "If you're a tennis player, or just someone who's mastered and grown tired of Wii Sports Tennis, pick up Grand Slam Tennis with a MotionPlus add-on and prepare to be amazed. Just saddle that amazement with a little bit of patience. The learning curve makes pick-up games with the uninitiated a bore, but with the incredible online functionality, a viable opponent is just a series of ones and zeroes away"
So did gamespot just not play the game long enough to understand the control system or is it that hard

It might be due to problems some reviewers have had with MotionPlus not working properly with debug consoles.

Played this at the weekend for the first time (have been ill since it came out) - consider me a motion control convert!
Always hated the idea before, but love a good tennis game, and this is just brilliant.
Had no problem with the controls at all, and could generally tell it was my fault when I cocked up a shot!
******* hard though lol. I only won one match in two hours!
Good exercise too.
Now getting excited about Natal and the Sony penis too. A cricket game would be brilliant!
spent a fair amount of time on this game and its very good indeed - has a steep learning curve, but once you get more used to the controls then its really enjoyable, esp in the grand slam career type mode.
