View Full Version : Oasis - best (Liam) version of "Don't Go Away ?"

I'm doing a compilation CD for a friend, and have been digging into the Oasis back catalogue.

One of my fave tracks is "Don't Go Away", but listening to the album version now, it sounds a bit wimpy - didn't Liam's vocals sound a bit more heartfelt, or have I 'romanticised' things over the years ?

Is there an acoustic/live/demo version that has a bit more vocal umph ? I seem to remember having a collection for listening in the car that might have been a better version - but if so, looking now, I no longer have it.

Googling just gives me loads of links to Noel's version/s, but it's definitely a Liam vocal that I'm thinking of.

Failing that, what heart-felt Liam song would anyone recommend, for a compilation disc for a new listener ?

TIA :)

No the Liam version has always sounded that way. It's usually the Noel acoustic version that people seem to gravitate towards. Same as 'Slide Away', though that's a pretty good Liam vocal in itself. I'd say you're better off with that one.

thanks, doc.

I suppose my singing along at full volume in the car has added a bit more meaning to it over the years !

I'm a sucker for Rockin' Chair. Great Liam vocal.

Don't go away is one of my fave oasis tracks ever! Be Here now could have been a really solid album if they had trimmed a few of the songs down, removed a few and added a few of the Bsides instead.

I dunno about that. It's potentially a good album. But the problems with it are well known, it's overproduced and every song goes on about 4 minutes longer than it should do. But then that's what happens when your record company write you a blank cheque and it all goes on the Coke dealer.
