May not be a surprise for a lot of people but was news to me so thought I'd post it........
http://oxcgn.com/2007/10/20/forza-motorsport-3-on-its-way-2009/
Announcement allegedly to be released the day before this year's Le Mans (12th June) for a release date around either November or possibly early next year, depending on where you take your gossip from. Article includes the logo and announcement that the Le Mans track will be included;
The 24 HEURES DU MANS is run on the 13 – 14th June, so the date on the image fits in perfectly with pre-race announcements.
Thanks to our affiliate lvl2gamer we have this neat image of the track with the date “save the date” embedded on it.
Well I can assure you, you WILL know about Forza 3 before the 12th June from – OXCGN. We have an appointment with MS when we land in LA on four “secrete games” to be announced during E3, and I’m 99% certain that Forza 3 is amongst those four titles.
I know that certain art assets have arrived at a Sydney firm for work to be begun on the release of “certain titles”. This usually has a 3-4 month lead up window before release, making it around the November period, which would fit in with my predictions of a Nov 11-12th Release date for Forza 3 (OXCGN’s prediction for release, not an official statement)
Personally I'm really looking forward to this and still have fun on Forza 2
I thought this was going to be one of the games shown at Microsoft's E3 press conference.
Assume so too, maybe its the Le Mans track thats being announced later on in June, who knows.

"four secrete games" presumable translates to four crap games?
Hmm 4
Forza 3, a new halo, Metal Gear and ????
Forza 3
APB (it's got to be at E3, not really new though)
Thi4f (wishful thinking)
GTA IV next city (exclusive)?

I'd forgotten about MM but it would be great on live.
They shouldn't try doing this at Le Mans, that's been Gran Turismo's track for 10+ years.
...Metal Gear...

Halo ODST is coming out towards the end of the year, so cant see them announcing another HALO.
They shouldn't try doing this at Le Mans, that's been Gran Turismo's track for 10+ years.
Le Man is also featured in Moto GP games, so can't see why they shouldnt use another real life track in forza, I personally would rather play tracks i recognise in Forza 3.
The only things putting me off Forza 3 are the incredibly long repetitive grind that completing Forza 2 turned out to be and, the prospect of it being almost exactly the same. Need for Speed: Shift is looking like the next PGR-style game and by the end of the year it will look fresh and new compared to Forza if they don't significantly add to the number of tracks and the variety in the game.
Le Man is also featured in Moto GP games, so can't see why they shouldnt use another real life track in forza, I personally would rather play tracks i recognise in Forza 3.
Le Mans is featured in MANY games (Grid for example) but in real life if you've ever watched a single lap of the circuit on TV, once you've seen the Mulsanne straight there is only one game in your head.
Example below, 1:37 in
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/fKmwbElYtr0&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/fKmwbElYtr0&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Its been like that for 10 years, along with cars covered in GT livery.
If they want to out-trump GT in brand image terms, going to Le Mans is a bad idea.
Exclusive DLC is annoying enough, never mind exclusive circuits.

my point is that the actual tracks in forza play very well with regards to the gradient changes, the accuracy of the actual track with regards to racing not visuals. - I would love to play all the well known places, SPA, Brands, Monza to name a few that i would love to play on..
Gran Tourismo and Forza are very different and on differing platforms therefore having the track in both would make these tracks available to me as it does in the the moto GP games.
Well my point is as a marketing exercise they shouldn't have chosen Le Mans as shown above its never going to get into the minds of gamers as its clearly a "GT Track" whether its the game or not.

its clearly a "GT Track"
Is it?
I'll not bother with Forza 3 personally. I found 2 to be such a grind fest in the single player mode. Most of the last endurance races I just hired an ingame driver to do the races for me.

I look at Le Man and see moto GP, so it depends on what eyes you are looking through.

I'm not too fussed what platform it's been on before - I'll be pleased to play the track on this generation of consoles rather waiting for GT5.
I posted this link earlier in the thread but Less than 3 hours to go (http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/next/index.html) what will it be?

Redefining the Modern Racing Game
"Forza Motorsport's" appreciation of the automobile is due in large part to the team's attention to detail. This is why automotive engineers from manufacturers like Audi and champion race teams like Peugeot as well as experienced computer graphics specialists from across Microsoft have all teamed up with Turn 10 to make "Forza Motorsport 3" the most beautiful and realistic racing game ever made. All 400-plus cars in the game have been built with more than 10 times the amount of polygons as "Forza Motorsport 2." This includes painstakingly researched cockpits and interiors for every vehicle. But realism isn't just about pretty graphics. Turn 10 takes realism to new heights, leading the industry with the most advanced physics model, artificial intelligence and damage calculations.
Forza is for Everyone
It's easy to go for a spin: "Forza Motorsport 3" redefines the racing genre by blurring the definition of simulation and arcade. Simulation games can be too hard for some players. "Forza Motorsport 3" rises above the distinction between simulation and arcade games by using a myriad of cutting-edge driving and gameplay assists such as auto-braking, gameplay rewind and auto-tuning. "Forza Motorsport 3" delivers an experience where everyone can have fun behind the wheel, regardless of your skill and dexterity. The car is literally the artistic canvas as some of the world's most creative car painters and designers find new layers of depth and freedom to create shocking visual masterpieces before sharing them with others over Xbox LIVE*. Each car in "Forza Motorsport 3" is fully upgradable, allowing gear heads to take on the challenge of turning a Honda Civic into a supercar killer. New Xbox LIVE scoreboards celebrate not only the greatest racers but also the most prolific car tuners and painters in the community.
Play Your Way with All-New Game Modes
"Forza Motorsport 3" is an epic racing game featuring more content and more ways to play than any racing title today. An innovative single-player season mode puts you through a completely personalized racing calendar that includes more than 200 different events, including Circuit, Oval, Drag, Drift and Timed Events. No two calendars are the same; they react to the cars you love and the races you enjoy most. In addition, the online multiplayer mode* gains an all-new game rules editor. This gives players a never-ending variety of ways to play with friends. Whether you're a speedster, dragster, drifter, painter, tuner or just a lover of cars, "Forza Motorsport 3" is the definitive racing game for you.

Forza Motorsport 3 will ship on two discs
In an interview with Joystiq, Forza Motorsport 3 content director John Wendl of Turn 10, confirmed the upcoming racer would ship on two discs. As rumors last year noted, the core game will come on the game's first disc while the second will be reserved for other content -- such as vehicles and maps. "It is going to ship on two discs," Wendl said. "Disc one is the full experience, even disc one is bigger than any other racing game out there. Disc two includes a lot of extra cars, even a handful of tracks."
When asked if the second disc would act as a data transfer, downloading the additional content to the hard drive for use with the first disc, Wendl told us that was "exactly right." While Turn 10 assures all gamers will be able to enjoy the full Forza 3 experience, we now have confirmation that not all gamers will be able to enjoy all 400 vehicles promised at the Microsoft press briefing.

I'm sticking with the pauper edition. I've never bought a special editon and not about to start now! :p
October's a while away yet but £54.99 at the mo is a bit
Thing is half the of exclusive cars are probably the best in the game. That Nissan in Forza 2 was awesome and you could only get it by preordering - never by trading if you didn't have the code. Now not only is it more money for more cars, but you have to buy it at 4 different retailers to get everything.

Forza's always controlled well and has been at the top of its game in terms of physics, but Forza 3 just feels better. Everything about it, from the subtle differences in handling from one car to the next to the sense of speed to the feeling of a connection with the road. Forza 3 is better. No doubt about it.

The axial force feedback in the Logitech isn't bad at all. Not as strong as my Logitech MOMO with real force feedback but the feel is still pretty good.

100% agree. Whilst not perfect the microsoft wheel should out perform the cheap logitech one. The difference between a properly coded game with FF and one thats not can make a huge difference. (GT5 prologue on ps3 against F1 being one example imo)
(you can pick up the microsoft wheel for about £60 now) If only the 360 supported the G25 :(
The IGN previews certainly wet the appetite but what do people think about the dumbing down the game? ... In particular, unlimited time-rewinds at no penalty, on every difficulty level.
Also it sounds like playing it on the hardest difficulty level, is the only real choice, even for those that are average racing-gamers.
Is there anyone out there brave enough to use the manual clutch?
In particular, unlimited time-rewinds at no penalty, on every difficulty level.
As long as lap times got with it can't be submitted to the leaderboards I really don't care about this.
I intend to use manual gears but not the clutch with the MS wheel. Will probably still use ABS and TCS as I'm not very skilled... :p
Some interesting footage...
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2yW8fEf5hM4&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2yW8fEf5hM4&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Certainly looks better graphically than the previous release, much better lighting. Car physics still look a little false though, especially when watching the replay, not much body roll or suspension give over bumps/hills. Cockpit view also looks a little restrictive.
This still looks like it is going to be one hell of a grind. I was about done with Forza 2 at 50% through the game and there seems to be much more in this one. I suppose what will make or break the sale for me are the tracks. If the majority are rehashes of those in Forza 2 I'll probably skip this in favour of Dirt 2 and NFS: Shift. If on the other hand there are a lot of new tracks with plenty of variety then I will probably buy Forza 3. Even now the memory of how tedious Forza 2 got is a strong one and that video doesn't do anything to help erase it.
I totally agree about the monotony of Forza 2's career mode, but hopefully with the press-release mentioning "...over 100 renowned real-world tracks and exotic road courses from around the globe" that issue should be addressed. Of course, these "100" tracks could be actually 50 tracks + reverse versions, but still, that is substantially more than the previous title.
I didn't find it tedious until the long races near the end, and even then only the ones that took an hour or longer to finish.
As long as lap times got with it can't be submitted to the leaderboards I really don't care about this.
I intend to use manual gears but not the clutch with the MS wheel. Will probably still use ABS and TCS as I'm not very skilled... :p
unfortunately they do..with a label next to them saying so 'unverfied' or something, cant remember
I recall from a preview that the label for a rewind-free lap is "Pure".

in my opinion it needs more tracks and more cars on the road at once, unforunately it looks like there will be just 8 again......not sure I can think of many motorsports apart from the uk rallying where so few cars are on the track at once........I'd rather have th option to go 30fps with 16 cars...
and the single player mode sound stupidly annoyingly long :(
Agreed, I keep thinking about this and wondering if it's just *too* big. That said, the last one was a game you played for ages so I guess there's no rush to get through the single player but for me most of the time spent will be racing online - and I'll need cash to do that to get better cars to win races to buy more cars.
The steering wheel with the clutch is I guess needed although a bit annoying maybe for the people that bought the last one, especially as there's only been about 2 racers suitable for use with it since. Everytime I think I Forza at the mo it all sounds really good but boils down to that online racing, and the lack of time I have to pour into career mode to get up and running and get cars capable of racing with people on my friends list who are likely to tune it, and they'll always be that wonder that no matter how well anyone drives, if they're just better because of the setup. I guess the gears thing has always been an issue in racing games but maybe the sheer amount of variables in this just exacerbates the difference between players off the track really segregating the racers on the track.
As good as Forza 2 was, it was never as good for me as PGR2. NFS Shift looks like it might be but it's a NFS game so that's going to stop a lot of people getting it and hordes of people will buy Forza anyway, so I think that'll put NFS to bed (even if it's good).
That thing with the laptimes sounds a bit poor too - how many people will hammer each corner ad infinitum to get the top time. "Pure" or not, top is top.
If it's nice and big that's not necessarily a bad thing. If it's a game I know I could play once a week perhaps, but will last me months and months then that's surely money well spent? You only tend to get tired of driving the same tracks if you play for hours on end day after day. Have a break between each championship for instance and suddenly you won't find it such a labourous task.
I agree with that, being so big isn't necessarily a dangerous thing. It is when it's like Forza 1 and 2 however, which were both huge, which any amount of break between championships still resulted in doing the same thing over and over. This has supposedly been rectified now but you still may have to play a lot early on to get the cash to be competitive online.
Well if they included extra tracks downloadable content it would help, although sadly they wouldn't come into play in the normal career mode I would think.

Looking hot!
From IGN:
Although I didn't get a chance to see multiplayer at PAX, I was told that Turn 10 will be running dedicated servers for online matches and will offer full matchmaking functionality a la Halo 3. So while you'll still be able to sync up with friends for private matches, you can also hop into playlists for automated multiplayer action.
Dedicated servers eh. Also looks like those who set pure or "Certified" times will sit atop the leaderboards ahead of uncertified times (damaged, drafted or used rewind to set a lap).

exactly, just watched on the big screen tv and it looks stunning, hoping the racing is as lively....
Isn't that exactly the same New York track configuration that was in Gran Turismo 4, or am I thinking of Forza 2?

forza 2, but with added chicanes
Forza 3 does look very polished indeed. For me, I think this is the driving sim to own more than Gran Turismo 5.
I'm only going off the experience of playing Forza 2, Gran Turismo 4 and GT5 Prologue and seeing the Forza 3 videos; but the Forza series seems authentic without feeling like being trapped in a broken down lift with a car enthusiast (but unfortunately with the lift music still working).
Visually looks easily on par with GT5. If they can have better AI, this will blow away GT5.
It will be the definitive racing game of this generation.
Certainly looking very impressive compared to Forza 2 and GT5, I just hope the career mode isn't going to take me 40 hours to complete again!

I think GT5 will be the GFX king but Forza will definitely hold the AI crown

Visually better, I agree, but does the GT5 video use the game-engine? ..... I'm highly suspicious it isn't. :p
Plus with Forza 3, you be able to make these type of videos with the in game video editior mode!!, i dont know if GT5 has this type of editing mode??

Porsche 911 GT3-RSR (Flying Lizard)
1 Track:
The monumental thing we've been seeing in the vids (Camino Viejo de Montserrat)
Time for some racing....
OK.
It's good. REALLY good.
Visually it's comparable with GT5 Prologue and occasionally surpasses it (that's a huge compliment IMO).
Handling is spot on but I expected that after Forza 2, it's taking it a good step forward too though.
Quite a few other car models on show beyond the ones you can race.
If I hadn't pre-ordered it, this would be the ONLY motivation I'd need. Impressive stuff!!
My only criticism is the in-car view (which is my favourite in many games). The windscreen is too clear, it's as if there's no glass. That may sound stupid but if you usually race in-car you might see what I mean!
Edit:
Nearly forgot!!!
The rewind feature is flippin brilliant! In some of the longer races on Forza 2 there had been many times where I had totally messed up on the last lap of a long race and ended up losing. The rewind button (back) takes the race back a few seconds and you can correct your mistake. Genius idea.
odd can't find it online, is it on the dash?

Pilfered from GRiD? :p
Had one race driving the Mini Coooper. The graphics are very good, handling is decent and that combined with the excellent track with good changes in elevation and lots of corners makes concentration and racing line key to victory. What can I say, Forza is back and as good as it ever was. I hope there are plenty of new tracks like this one. :)
If I had a complaint or two it would just be I don't care for the really white interface of the demo, loading times (it seems to load twice) and yes I see what you are saying about the in-car view Mr Coates but I think it is just a first impressions issue and it offers a good view of the road ahead.
Edit: Special mention to the replays. Not only can you change the view to lots of camera angles including some unusual ones, there are 7 pages of telemetry data you can cycle between while in any view.
Good job they didn't pilfer the handling from Grid.

That's the other side of the coin, the in-car view can sometimes make racing awkward due to the restricted view - at least the visibility of the road ahead is super clear!

If you go to the reverse hood view you can see there is definitely a windscreen in there. On another note you might have noticed that there is a Camera icon and an X button Camera label on the replays. Not only are there loads of camera views but when you select say, helicopter or roof cam' pressing the x button then cycles through all the roof or helicopter camera views. I've spent about 5 minutes racing and the rest watching the replays. :)

The Forza 3 demo is very good, as far as it goes - as a teaser for the full game. They could have included more tracks or more than one configuration of the same track to play, actual events to take part in instead of just an unnamed 2 lap race, vehicle setup and other customisation options to play with.
My pre-order was already in but it is definitely now a safe pre-order.
whats with the unuseable mirrors in incar view...or have i missed something on panning etc? i can only just see my wing mirror, and half my rearview one?
God damn work. Will have to download tonight... :(
Went home at lunch time to get the download started, should be ready by the time I get home... :dork:

Servers need some configuration tweaks and after that the leaderboard option will show up when selecting the track.
Also, note that once leaderboards are up, you'll not only be able to post your lap times, but you'll also be able to download replays and race against ghosts.
And, there will be no lap limit when racing from the leaderboards. You can hot lap for as long as you want.

It's a load of rubbish..........
......that i have to wait 4 weeks for the full game, because the demo is great!!
Very enjoyable little demo. Graphics are much improved over the previous release & the in-car view seems very playable. Handling for each of the five demo cars was noticeably different between each other, but not that much different from Forza 2, not that i'm complaining as I like this handling, feels very smooth after playing the twitchy, shakey NFS:Shift.

I'm trying to work out how SirP is so much faster than me. I hope you can download replays like in Trials HD in the full game
When I replayed the demo last night I had a strange stuttering effect that I didn't get the first time I played the demo. I think it might be linked to the rewind feature because it kicked in just after I hit a barrier and the rewind reminder appears at the bottom of the screen. Has anybody else noticed this? It only happened a couple of times and only during one race.
I'm trying to work out how SirP is so much faster than me. I hope you can download replays like in Trials HD in the full game
SirP is one of those rare show-offs ;) that uses manual gears, which usually makes a big difference if you can handle it, as automatic gearboxes in racing-games are never that effective.

Nope, instead of pressing a to start the race go into the leaderboards with Y button and you can race peoples ghosts on hot laps, no time or lap limit! Just find someone with an icon under the paperclip looking item or press A at the top and race yourself.
Press right on D Pad to go into the drifting option, samething but you get points for drifting.
Am i the only one who found this?:D
How do you get a ghost down? Can I get one from one of my friends? Demo is good. Won't be bothering buying it purely because it takes too much time up and I have other stuff I need to play!

I wish I was a showoff too but that demo didn't give a feeling of speed at all.... In Dirt 2 there's always that "Oh god, that wall appeared out of no where" type moment when you first play on a track...
I have a feeling when you get more than 2 laps and bigger tracks things will be a lot different...
What do all those weird symbols in the leaderboards mean? Looks like there's either a left or right or whole circle under ABS/TCS/AUTO then a paperclip (presumably ghost) then a little warning thing.

Full circle is you have the option on. Not sure after that how you have a partial selection
From Forza forum
ABS:
Full circle: Auto-brake and ABS
Half circle: Auto-brake or abs (not sure which side signifies which)
(NC comment) Right side = Auto-Brake, Left = ABS I believe.
TCS:
Full Circle: Traction control and Stability
Half Circle: Traction control or Stability (not sure which side signifies which)
(NC comment) Right side = Traction, Left = Stability I believe.
Auto:
Full circle: Automatic
Half circle: Manual
No circle: Manual with clutch
Paperclip:
Full circle: Saved ghost/replay (top 100 times posted after leaderboard was live)
Hazard sign:
Hazard sign means the lap is uncertified (hit a car, hit a wall, draft over 100mph, go off track)
No hazard sign means the lap is certified.
what is all this feeling of speed talk..has anyone actually driven a car round a race track? things dont just appear out of nowhere :) everyone has driven 80-100mph havent they, it doesnt feel like your a space pilot does it?
I like that the certified times appear above the non-certs in the leaderboards (even if the non-certs are quicker) and also in the race the best certified lap counts as the faster (even if there's a faster non-certified).
yeah, im glad that is the case matt, though wouldnt it have been much easier to not log the uncertified time at all?
I guess so but there are an awful lot of people with uncertified times, I guess if they're catering to everyone with the additional assists etc they have to cater to everyone with the leaderboards also. I don't think it really matters hugely, they're at the bottom out of the way which is the way it should be really (ie no wall running for top spot) but at least this way there's a log I suppose.
In other news, I don't think chase cam is as responsive as it needs to be - I find myself lapping a lot quicker on bonnet view which makes me sad :(

Yeah always use chase cam, it's what the cool kids use.
Or used. :( Can't see where the back of your car is so harder for close racing when using inside view.

I like bonnet view, allows me to be more accurate.
Does anyone here drive without ABS? It's the only assist I use (apart from braking line) and I can't seem to stop locking the brakes up with it off.

Chase cam is more realistic... unless you have tunnel vision in real life of course.
I've just downloaded the demo for this. I played a few races (on medium) and realised after a while it was just completely braking for me and all I had to do was steer. WTH? Isn't medium what they expect the majority of people would have it set to? Hence "medium". So they made a racing game where they don't want you to brake at all... eh? :suspect: Shouldn't they have that assistance off by default?

No, in real life we have two eyes, so our field of view includes the sides of the car.
In the United Kingdom, the minimum field requirement for driving is 60 degrees either side of the vertical meridian, and 20 degrees above and below horizontal.
An in car computer game view is less than half that. The only way to replicate the field of view is to move the camera back. ;)

Wtf? Are YOU mental? :suspect: You have two eyes I take it? Then you can see both sides of the road at once and see movement out your side windows without turning your head... AND you can move your head and your eyes within your head. An in car view is like driving with tunnel vision whilst your head is locked in place, which isn't at all realistic is it. Has the world gone nuts here? Am I on my own with wanting to see properly in a driving game?
i can't see the sides of my car when im driving it legally, from my drivers seat... just window and bonnet????
Then you have tunnel vision. Go see a doctor. Or did you think I meant the "out" sides of the car? Because the "in" sides of the car are also the sides of the car.

I always use the bonnet cam. The in-car cam takes up too much of the screen, you might as well just play with bonnet cam on a smaller TV and prop up a wii wheel in front, and behind the car just feels odd.

Ignore the car model. Look at the field of view (that's what I'm talking about, everything else is irrelevant) of your bottom picture... I've put that as the small box. I've only eye balled it but that looks about right, correct me if I'm wrong. It might even be a bit too wide. Now imagine you are actually sitting in the drivers seat of a real car. The red box...
http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/6783/gridsfchasecamcopy23.jpg (http://img85.imageshack.us/i/gridsfchasecamcopy23.jpg/)
In real life you'd see that collision to your left, the edge of your vision would see the movement and your eyes would dart to see it in a fraction of a second. You would NOT see it in the bonnet cam or in car view. The first you'd know about it is the orange car spinning across the road in front of you.

You said chase cam is more realistic, OK in field of view terms you do see a lot more (too much in fact), but as a driving experience it's not realistic at all!
Doesn't a racing helmet reduce a driver's peripheral vision anyway..?
Though, until 360 degree racing cockpit simulators are the norm in peoples living rooms it's always going to be a compromise. :D

So, anyway, back to the demo, I can't get anywhere near the top leaderboard time of 1.03, I'm a good 4 seconds off that pace, would love to see their ghost!
Hopefully will pick this up in the sales after Christmas as I've only just bought Dirt 2 and Shift .... 3 racing games in quick succession is overkill.
Your time is around 1:07, 1:08? Best I've managed is 1:08 so far. I'm sure I could do it quicker with a bit more practise though. It's like the 90 second lap achievement on Grid, I got it eventually.

What car is that? I just did a 1.04 in the porsche. Using traction control and anti-lock brakes.. though. Turned off the driving line... too distracting.
I think he's talking about the R8.

Okay, I just tried that and got a 1.08.989.
Prefer this demo to GT5-P, there's a real sense of weight to the cars plus the they actually sound similar to the real thing. Is it worth preordering it now or picking it up on release day in a supermarket ?
I think the best pre order prices are probably long now, so barring any stock shortages probably just easier to pick up on release.
Do most people who have the demo know about the Drift leaderboards for each vehicle class? I only ask because nobody seems to be setting any scores.
FWD - 8,084
AWD - 10,835
RWD - 13,212
My best so far is a 1:00.335 in the R3 Porsche and 1:06.813 in the Audi R8... :D
Still not tried the other cars yet...
Those are good times I think I'm on 1:05 and 1:08 but I've mostly been doing the drifting. For both racing and drifting I use automatic gears and the braking line but with everything else turned off.
I use the MS wheel and have never been able to drift, in this or FM2.
Drifting is just a matter of tapping the A button and turning into the corner. Two things to keep in mind: speed and angle. The faster you drift and the greater the angle the more points you'll get. It is a risk/reward thing, you need to be able to push the car and the corner to the limits consistently without losing control. Often it is better to sacrifice a bit of speed to accomplish this. Don't try to drift all the time just identify those corners or parts of the track that are ideal for drifting. Don't spin the car or leave the track or you won't bank the points.
On the other hand in Need For Speed: Shift I can't drift very well at all.

Boo-hoo, just tried to download the demo and it'd appear because I'm a tight-wad, non-Gold user I'm not allowed it... :(
Will it ever be "free"? As I don't tend to buy a game before deciding if I like the demo first this may have to drop off my list for a while (until it's in the bargain bins!).
Yes, should be free a week from when the demo first was made available.

Thanks allan. :)
Just typical timing for me as well - my free 1 month Gold trial, which I had when I registered my box, just ran out a few days ago. Didn't get round to using it for anything and then as per usual once I don't have it any more something appears I'd want to download!
So is this typically how the demos work then, Gold for a bit then free? I guess I've probably downloaded demos during my temporary Gold membership without thinking anything more about it. Most of them were "older" titles, though, which I guess had been there for a while.
I'm going to download the demo now and give it a go.

AFAIK you can register upto 4 accounts on your 360 and each account gets their own free month of gold. If your not wanting to wait the extra week that silver members do then you could do that.

i must admit, i was a little disappointed by the demo. I think we have been led down the garden path, a la GT5 with visuals. The detail is not as good as i would have liked.
I love forza 2, so will love forza 3, it just isnt the leap i was hoping for, and what they say exists! And lets get things straight, its not just a demo, its a snippet of finished build.

A new car is being revealed everyday until the games release.

Super, I didn't know that, thanks!
I hadn't thought about doing that as I have fuzzy memories (and it was only a few weeks ago, so that's a measure of how good my brain is!) of entering the serial number at some point during registration or setting up an account so I just naively assumed that once I logged my Xbox with Microsoft that'd be it. Shall try this later then! :)
Anyway, a bit more on topic I'm looking forward to having a go on this and compare-n-contrasting it with GT5 : Prologue.
Had a mess with the demo today but thought the cars didn't feel very lifelike - maybe the handling was off and I'll give it some more time, but wasn't as impressed as I should and wanted to be :(

Forza 3: Exploring Disc 2 (http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/103/1031109p1.html)
US, October 2, 2009 - Forza Motorsport 3 has too much love to give. That's not a joke. Not all of the cars and tracks could fit on one DVD, so developer Turn 10 had to split them onto two discs. The first disc is your game disc. Insert it and you have access to most of the environments and about 300 cars. To get the rest (104 cars, 29 tracks), you'll need to install disc 2 on a hard drive.
When you first insert disc 1, it will ask if you want to install the second disc. The install eats up 1.9 GB of space. Yowa! But you can instead choose pieces of disc 2 to install if you have limited space or a memory card.
Disc 2 is broken up into four packs that act like downloadable content. If it's installed on your hard drive, then the game reads it and adds in the content seamlessly. If not, then you won't see these cars or tracks in your game and can't use them in online multiplayer.

There's a few threads on the official forums about it but I haven't seen any dev response yet. Seems it happens to some and not others, maybe a VGA issue.
expect a day one patch no doubt, and a response once they have fixed something they didnt spot :)

Got my 360 back from repair on Friday and had a play on the demo of this last night, its more of the same I guess but im loving it - this will more than tide me over until GT5.
Love the presentation as well, its just so clean.
Had a bit more of a play of the demo and half tempted now to pick up a copy when my local Tesco re-stocks. For racing/car games Burnout always appealed to me more though - the rewind function in Forza 3 appeals though.
I wasn't convinced by the rewind function in this, used it once when I started a race as the car caught the edge of the grass at full speed and fishtailed all over the place before crashing but other than that I thought that they had stuck it into a racing game of this type simply because this rewind stuff seems to be the fad at the moment.
I take it you guys liked it for setting hot laps. :?:
msm13579
04-10-2009, 18:58
i think the rewind feature is great, the career mode is probably going to be long and boring, at the end of a race if you mess up the last corner, being able to rewind takes a lot of the frustration out of the career mode for me.
I take it you guys liked it for setting hot laps. :?:
i'd never want to use it for setting fast lap times and the game agrees as all laps where rewind is used (or if you go off track) will be behind clean laps on the leaderboards :)
Anyone else think that it's still a bit easy even once you turn all the driving aids off? I remember having to be very careful on the throttle and braking on F2 or you would spin/lock the wheels etc. but on this it seems like I can just floor it out of the bends with no negative effects.

I must admit it did seem to be very easy to get to grips with for a 'new' version of a game.
Forza 2 was a beast at times, I wonder if it was too much for some. I do like to turn the assists off to spice things up a bit but I can imagine it's a right handful for some.

I'm always having the same problem, don;t know why though.
What I do to get around it is go to their forums first (http://forums.forzamotorsport.net/forums/), login using my gamercard and then click on the link to their homepage.
Seems to work...

Yeah I saw that one coming, still seems like the games going to be heavy on content so overall im pleased.
I was looking at the list and noticed cars like Acura "Andretti-Green Racing ARX-01b 2008" and "Lowe's Fernandez ARX-01b 2008"....anyone know how that works? are the cars just identical vehicles with different liveries or are they differently tuned or what. Im not hugely bothered or anything because I know GT5 will do similiar things with their 1000 cars list just wondered how there making up their list of 400 cars.:?:
Cheers for the free Zune car btw res, would have missed that otherwise.
Where is the full track list?
the tracklist is poor. How can this be a new game years later with hardly any new tracks. I smell DLC.
I am not so excited anymore at all. Setting the same time trials on the same old tracks. Why spend all the time getting 400 cars designed, id rather have 30 cars and 30 new tracks!
One thing I can tell you I will definitely be cancelling my online pre-orders. Not taking the chance of this or Uncharted 2 turning up late.

Have to say the full car & track lists are disappointing. Remove everything we've played before & there's very little new choices to get excited about.
Still looking forward to it, but expectations have been lowered drastically. Suddenly Borderlands (out the same day) is looking the more fresh & exciting of that week's new releases.
