Is that anything like hobowars? I better not go near it, hobowars stole a year of my life! I fear going anywhere near a full game like WOW. I'll be one of those people you read about dying at their keyboard.
Not played hobowars, but this is very very addictive, it's really good but it does start to take over your life!!

I've started playing on my ipod. Are the Facebook and ipod/iphone versions connected in any way?
I don't know but have often wondered...

I'm playing the myspace version and I'm almost at level 150 and doing the new missions in cuba. Yes it's addictive :p
The worst thing for me is collecting everything, I have to get all the limited edition items, I've spent a little money on it (only around £10). Hate those damn godfather items :(

Is there much to the game or is it just another one of the stats-based games like Kings Of Chaos, etc?

Didn't realise a thread for Mafia Wars was in existence. After ages of ignoring requests, one friend was so desperate to increase his Mafia I relented. That was two months ago...
Level 202 with a 658 Mafia... Tastier than crack.

Got into this about 3 weeks ago, and your right aobut addictive, never got into taramagatchi, but it must be like this, you have to pop on for about 5 minutes to maintenance whenever you can to maximise your potential. Just past level 36. Perhaps all forum members should add each other to their gang to become mighty mafioso? I'm up for it as I have trouble getting members, is there any downside to this idea?

You can add people as friends in facebook, then add them to you mafia (Making sure it is confirmed) then remove them from FB and they stay in your Mafia, but you can't help them on jobs nor send them bonus items. Wars and gifts still work though.
If you want to add me to yours then PM me for my details. Level 204.
I'm on it everyday.
About level 92 now I think

What I don't get is how it works, if you want my help fighting is it automatic, or would I get a mesage saying do you want to assist so-in-so? I've got a feeling its all automatic from what I've seen, basically how does it work on a multi-player basis, if I for instance add you as my bagman does that mean your my bagman in your game, I've gto a feeling each person plays individually and what you do with your mafia is irrespective to what they are doing, like for instance the game recommends you have body armour and a vehicle for every gang member, so if I add you as a gang member, you've already got your own body armour and vehicles so I don't need to do this, but I suspect it doesn't work like that, your in essence just giving me an extra man which I then have to equip?
Also when you get attacked you can click on their name and get their profile but this doesn't tell you how many are in their mafia, and if you go on fight so see how many are in their mafia their name is not listed. And how is it decided when and where you are listed for other people to attack?

AFAIK. Having people in your Mafia only enables you to have more people. Their own weapons, armor and vehicles do not help. So if you got the fight limit of 501, you would need 501 weapons, 501 armor and 501 vehicles. The better the item attack, the greater your attack, but when you fight other players are unaware. BUT, if it crops up that they helped you, it is automatic and they get 2XP if that happened. If the player has invested in their attack XP then I think that may benfit you but don't hold me to this.
The multi-player aspect is greater with starting a war. You cannot win one without other mafia members. At least 6 mafia members need to help to win a war. A war doesn't really get you that much more XP.
Asking Mafia members to attack someone can help to **** someone off and generate you some money. Same with asking for help on a job.
To stop getting listed for attack and robbing, keep your health under 20. In that state you are a ghost, so everytime I log on or go up a level I fight until it says I am too weak. This protects your property too. I've only been robbed heavily once as I forgot to log out of Mafia Wars before it regenerated over 20.

yeah I read that 20 thing on their forums, I've had people ask others to fight me a few times, but I have never fought others, having only 15 members, thought I'd be too weak as most have more. Also have been spending my experience points on defence other than attack knowing from their forums that I'm going to be in trouble from larger gangs. I've never tried the under 20 thing, but I don't like rising ranks anymore, just means your more likely to be attacked by stronger players.
Anyone playing this on iPhone?
