No idea if this is nationwide, but my local Borders store (Bournemouth) had a bunch of new release Blu-rays racked up at £9.99 while the DVD versions sat next to them at £14.99! Titles I spotted included:

- Quantum Of Solace
- Defiance
- Frost/Nixon
- The Duchess
- Body Of Lies
- Day The Earth Stood Still (new one)

Certainly the cheapest I've seen a lot of these discs,

Typical,

Have been looking for a decent deal on The Day The Earth Stood Still for a while (£17.98 cheapest online), and there is no Borders within 40 miles from me, and it doesn't even show on their online site...

Ah well

That's annoying, I would like a few of those but the Bullring is still closed after a chemical leak scare!

Cheers to the OP on this one.

Picked up Changeling, Defiance and Frost/Nixon at the Llantrisant store last night. QofS was out of stock, but even so, £30 for the 3 new releases is a right bargain and no mistake!

Well, I just rang my two local(ish) ones.

One had none left because someone bough a ******** of them yesterday.

One had none left because shoplifters whipped 3k worth of stock last week.

Oh, well...

Anybody feeling in a generous Bankholiday mood and would like to pick me up a copy of The Day The Earth Stood Still ?

Would happily pay you whatever it cost you (not sure if it's £8.99 or £9.99 at the mo) plus a couple of ££ postage.

Can pay by BT or PayPal gift, whichever suits.

Many thanks,
Kevin.

The staff at Colney told me that there was set amount of stock going for £9.99 on selected titles, once that had sold out the remaining stock would be full price. I got 'Frost/Nixon' which is what I went in for.

I went into Oxford Street, London yesterday, and they had loads of QOS behind the tills. The discs that were on the Ground Floor all had £22 on them, with BRs marked at around the same, but then i went to the 3rd floor and the had labels on them marking them down to £9.99.
I asked the guy if they had QOS, he said no sold out too. SO i picked up a copy of Twilight for £9.99 and when i got to the till i asked the guy if he had QOS, and if by magic he went under the till, said he had loads and scanned it in for £9.99.
Twilight by the way scanned in at £14.99, but as it had a £9.99 label he typed some code in and it £9.99 too.
Bit of a story I know, hope it helps someone pick up a bargain or two.

I can vouch for that too actually, when I phoned Cambridge and asked them to check stock on Defiance the chap came back on the phone and said there was none on the shelves. Then as an after thought he said he'd go and check behind the tills and call me back, which he did having found a stash of them hidden away!

QOS still £25 on their website.

Pity my nearest outlet is £5 worth of petrol away - kind of defeats the purpose going !!!

What I don't understand is, there were other titles there full price? I though perhaps Borders were selling of their stock or something.

Bizarre - but all good!

Ste7en
26-05-2009, 15:04
If they were selling off their stock it would probably be DVDs and not a relatively new format in all honesty.

I've been told:

i) it is a new pricing strategy, to be held indefinitely
ii) it is for a limited time only
iii) it is until all the allocated 'reduced' stocks have gone

Option iii looks to be the most likely IMO.

EDIT: Deffo looks that way to me. I've just been to the Team Valley one and got:

Changeling 9.00 quid
Fargo 9.00 quid
Little Miss Sunshine 9.00 quid

As they had some 10 percent off vouchers floating around.

They also had The Dutchess for a tenner and Australia for 15 quid. Most other stuff was way back up in price.

I went into the one in Oxford today and picked up what looked like the last Defiance and Underworld 3 at £9.99 as they were the last ones on the shelf.

Also picked up the Promise for £9.99 too, which they had a few copies left of.

Had a couple of the Hulk stickered up at £7.99, Frost/Nixon at £9.99, Jessie James at £9.99, Australia at £14.99...as well as a few others.

Wish I could've picked up Body of Lies, but still happy though, so thanks for the heads up!!!

London Charing Cross branch had about 15+ titles behind the counter on the second floor this morning. None of the very recent titles eg QoS, but a fair number and a few titles at 7.99 Hulk, xXx (hurl).

Actually their DVD stock was wide ranging and pretty heavily discounted as well - plenty of bargains.I hadn't previously considered Borders as worth looking at because they usually had everything at list price but on looking today I have revised that opinion - plenty of stuff down to £2.99-4.99.

I went into the Oxford branch today on the off chance they had any new stock and low and behold I found a lone copy of Body of Lies by itself and it was still scanning in at £9.99! They had a few others too, so don't know whether they've had any more in!
