hi - a freind has bought a new Toshiba XV55 37" lcd tv
we cannot get Sky to work..
we have tried everything i think.

sounds simple - but here;s the wierd bit
plug the sky box into tv scart (either one) tv shows sky message saying "error no satelite signal is being received".
go to services and the signal and qualty show nothing, lock says no lock

plug normal arial in and it find digital terrestrial stations.

plug arial into sky box and then to tv and digital terresital still works.

plug sky box into another lcd Tv and it works - all channels - goto services and quality and signal show approx 60% and signal is locked.

plug Xbox into scart via xbox lead with red yellow and white cables - and we get sound no picture.

plug the composite cables in and we get sound and pictures.

please can someone explian and help.

many thanks

Have you selected the correct input for sky. Eg. AV1, AV2, component?

yeah - thats what is really odd.

we get the feed from the sky i.e menus etc, but it wont show any tv it just says

no satelite signal is being recieved. - and the signal test shows the same.

yet if i unplug the scart lead from the back (without moving or touching anything else) plug it in to my other lcd TV it all works :shrug:

Have you tried a different scart connection?
Are you able to test the component connection.
It sounds as if you might have a faulty scart connection on the TV.
Try and test all the other possilbe connections.

xbox works on component - sound and graphics.

xbox dosent work if i use the reb/white/yellow connections into a scart adapter

digital tuner tunes and works

analogue tuner will pick up the sky feed from the RF output on the sky box - but does exactly the same (i.e says no satelitee signal is being received)

also tried second Sky box with scart and RF - all the same - NO SIGNAL - but plug into another tv and it works ??????????????????

Connect Sky to good TV via one scart output, and to bad TV via second scart output. Or to both TVs via two RF outputs. Does it show that it is receiving a satellite channel on both, or that no satellite signal is being received on both?

You aren't doing something stupid like disconnecting the Sky box from the satellite cable when moving it from one TV to the other are you?

Hi Broadz

hi i'll try that.

and no - we didn't disconnect any cables - we made sure we didnt touch the box or any other cable - all we did was unplug the scart from the back of the new TV to the old TV -

So you have the box plugged into one TV, on the sky menus its showing no lock... you pull the scart out of that TV into another and sky gets a lock and signal strength? Switch back and it loses it?
Something else is going on, the TV won't have an affect on if the Sky box is getting a signal or not..... If the scart was dodgy you wouldn't get the sky menus....
Perhaps you have a poltagiest? :S

hi Crazy Squirrel

as the thread title says "no sensible explanation"

tried 2 sky boxes and 2 scart leads and 2 r RF leads all the same out come :doh::doh:

How close is the sat dish's cable/connector.. to the scart output on the back of the sky box? Maybe there's something weird like one TV is earthing the sat box (via the scart) and one isn't. Try earthing the sat cable connector (it should have a metal twisty nut exposed you can use) to a radiator (the metal bit of the radiator, not a painted bit) while it's plugged into the bad TV.

right - now we have taken the new tv downstairs to the original sky box,
plugged in via scart and it works - so we know the tv/connections are ok.
took tv upstairs plugged into the box upstairs - no lock - no signal.

turned box off and help backup for a forced software update - that came up on screen saying please wait etc. 10 miutes etc.

finsihed that and........ no lock - no signal - no channels

i give up !!!!

going to try sky customer servies - but how the heck do u explain it ??

Not sure how multiroom works... but assume the upstairs box has it's own feed direct from the dish? Have you tried swapping boxes? So upstairs connection with the downstairs box and tv that doesn't work with the upstairs box :p

If you are covered by warranty or a sky cover plan i'd maybe just tell em its not getting a lock and don't tell them that its working with a different tv. Let the engineer come out and do his stuff, could maybe tell him on the day the full picture. If you have to pay for a call out though....
