My mums got a Sony 30" CRT TV all's been well with it until recently.
Was over today and noticed all the whites have a green tinge to them or a green outline. Any writing on the screen also has a blur to it. Screwed about with the settings and no difference.

So I put in a dvd, it's fine, good crisp picture with no blur and good colour. Which leads me to believe then it's the signal. However it has a built in Freeview with an onscreen menu. Even the menu looks screwed up, so that's not relying on any outside source or signal, it's built into the TV, so why do dvd's look fine?

Kind of at a loss, but suspect it's time for a trip to buy a new TV.

I guess it's some sort of tuner fault, does analogue television (as opposed to freeview) show up the same problem? As you've tried a separate dvd player (so therefore it appears source inputs are working fine), one option rather than replacing the television would be to pick her up a external freeview box as they're pretty inexpensive these days. Otherwise, you could consider getting her a budget PVR so she has the option to record and/or pause live television.
