Universal Home Entertainment will release Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series on DVD and Blu-ray on July 28, 2009.

This 20-disc Blu-ray set and 25-disc standard DVDset contains every episode of the popular SCI FI Channel series, along with extensive bonus materials, and is now available for pre-order.

Created and executive-produced by Ronald D. Moore and David Eick, the series starred an ensemble cast led by Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Tricia Helfer, and Grace Park.

The last half of the show’s final season — Season 4.5 — is also now available for pre-order and will also be released on DVD and Blu-ray on July 28, 2009 with loads of extras.

SYNOPSIS
The Battlestar Galactica saga began on one devastating day, when the human population of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol was annihilated in a series of surprise attacks by their own creation—the Cylons, a race of sentient robotic clones. The few survivors huddled together on space ships, facing almost certain death at the hands of their ruthless enemies. In Battlestar Galactica: Season 4.5, Commander William Adama (Emmy Award®-winner Edward James Olmos), the hawkish military leader of the last surviving battleship, searches for a habitable planet as the murderous Cylons follow relentlessly. As mysterious premonitions help Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell) the President of the Twelve Colonies, guide the ship to the fabled Thirteenth Colony, Earth, treacherous double agents, Cylon spies and internal dissent plague the Galactica. The ship’s crew and passengers battle for their lives—and the survival of the human race—armed with only cunning and determination against the military might of the Cylon Empire.

Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series will be the first complete television series released on Blu-ray Disc when Universal rolls the set out on July 28. It will also be one of the most expensive with an SRP set at $349.98 and Amazon pre-order pricing currently sitting at $244.99.
The cost of a monthly car payment is not keeping BSG faithful away from this extravagant Blu-ray release. Since going up for pre-order over the weekend, Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series on Blu-ray has been a fixture in Amazon's hourly Blu-ray top 10 bestsellers chart. At the time of this article it rests comfortably in slot number 5.

Everyone who has already pre-ordered the set has arguably done so blindly. Advertisements on Hulu and Caprica revealed the unedited version of Razor would be inclusive but no other Blu-ray details have been offered thus far.

Thanks to "The Live Feed" by James Hibberd at The Hollywood Reporter, the first details are out of the bag and I think you all will be pleased.

Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series on Blu-ray will span 20 total discs (25 for DVD). Three episodes from season 4.5, available separately on Blu-ray as well, will be extended with never-before-seen footage.

James goes on to mention season 4.5 will include 13 hours of bonus material. His wording suggests that includes audio commentaries likely available for all episodes so the number is deceptive.

The complete list of bonus features for season 4.5 (Presume these will also be on the complete set as well?) are outlined below and all appear to be new. It is assumed bonus features released previously on DVD and HD DVD will also be included. Note that the Ultimate Battle game is likely a BD-Live feature that allows for online play against friends.

Box art should become available in the coming days or weeks and you can bet I'll share as soon as it becomes available.

$349 that works out at $87 per season are they on crack?

I think as much as I would like to see it in HD I will wait till the price is a lot more reasonable.

Not bad a price! Silly question time. Does it include the original Mini-series? Doesn't mention it as it's seperate to series 1 so i thought i'd better ask

That seems like a very small differential in pricing from DVD to Blu. I hope that sort of trend continues, rather than being twice the price.

The series 1 HD-DVD contained the mini series, so I'd hope so. It'd be silly not carrying the first two hours of a four series show

I'd expect Razor to be in there too.

Sounds good but gone are the days where I would rush to buy big expensive sets, I take it that this not a limited edition run?

Thanks Fatbloke! In that case £117.39 is a right steal at this stage!! I don't expect the price to fall for a couple of years at least. TV boxsets on DVD seem to hold there vaule a lot longer then films do for some reason, i expect the same with BD

Not really most boxsets can be quite cheap within a year some nearly half price, WB and Fox normally do lots of promotions. Although you are correct for complete series but even the Buffy one seems to go for half price these days. I am in no rush only having the series just finished recently.

Always find it more enjoyable watching a series again after a few years.

Providing the UK BR set carries over the extras from the US release...

Has there been any info as to whether the R2 DVD set will take on the extras from the R1 which are currently missing from the single season sets (eg commentary on the min-series, etc)?

Was wondering that myself. Universal Playback don't have a good record in this area.

Anyone heard anything?
