View Full Version : Another Scart Question?

Hi, I've sorted one problem out regarding my scart connections (thanks mikek):D but the question I have now is to do with the colour of picture.
Since using the scart and configuring it properly through dvd, I've found the picture is sharper/clearer. However, I also find that the actual colour of picture seems nothing like when viewed with Video/S-Video set-up.
Is this normal? Has anyone else noticed this when setting their's up?
Many thanks again, Mr Digital:nuts:

Last weekend I did some experimenting with RGB and my ntl cable TV box. Not having a scart-splitter (yet), my one RGB-enabled TV scart is devoted to the DVD, but curiosity got the better of me and I unplugged the DVD player. With the cable box going into AV1 I was able to switch views from AV1 (RGB) to composite and compare the results. Colours are definitely different! If anything they are slightly more muted with RGB but far more natural. At one point, I saw Kevin Keegan being interviewed and the difference in the skin tones was very noticeable, with composite being quite pink and RGB looking 'real'.
As a result of the above I've placed an order for one of those BTECH scart splitters from Beyond Hi Fi. RGB is just too good.

Rich.
Not that it is that important, but did you also notice how garish the menu on ntl is when you have it through a non rgb scart? it's painful to look at.
I got a scart switch box for ntl/dvd/ps2 and they all look fab now. If it is of any interest it can be found here:
http://www.beststuff.co.uk/hubs_and_splitters.htm
and is the av selector 300 automatic.
cheers

Howdo,
Sorry if this has been gone over before, but BeyondHifi's BTech BT22 will let me feed my one RGB scart tv an RGB signal from both ps2 and NTL box, right?
Seems awfully cheap at £7 incl. delivery...
Why are people going for £40 boxes that do the same? Is it just that they're automatic? Any chance of a piccy of the AV-Selector 300?
Cheers all,
A²

Cheers Dave,
Mmmmmm.. Nice fat cableature :)
So, the consensus is that these boxes are (considerably) better than the BTech 2 way?

RGB overides the colour adjustments on your TV, svideo and composite does not. If your colours look un natural, try adjusting them to suit! Svideo is much maligned by RGB enthusiasts, but in all honsty if your tv is set up correctly the differences should be in texture and sharpnes, not necessarily colour.;)

Davey - NTL menus are definitely much calmer looking via RGB! You should try The Hoobs (Channel 4) as well! (If you've got any young children who have you out of bed before 7.00am that is.) The Hoobs show set features spot lights in the background and it's actually quite gorgeous to look at via RGB. The effect is far less subtle with composite. We're into anorak territory here, but what the hell.
Like A2 I'm now wondering about that BTECH splitter I've ordered. Someone posted on this forum that they use it and notice no signal degredation, but there must be a reason for the significant price difference between the BTECH and the Hama. I haven't received mine yet, but I won't be happy if I notice a drop in picture quality with DVD.

will have to check that programme out lol.
im no expert - i could not definitivly tell u the hamas outputs everything correctly, but what i can say is that i can see no difference when using it to having each item into the rgb on the tv direct.
that place with the one for £7 though - i seem to recall that they do have fab prices. a 2 way scart box which says rgb compatable in powerhouse is about £15 so maybe the one youve ordered will be good. worth a go anyway.
i think ive also got some btech cables (headphone to 2 phono, & a ribbed scart) - i might have the make wrong and its all awkward to look at - and they seem good.
ps - if you order the hamas try and ensure they send it with a uk plug or adapter. mine didnt have one so i had to go and get one but they did say it should have and they would send me a replacement if i wanted.

I have one scart on my TV and i got one of these from argos:
Here (http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/commerce/command/ExecMacro/ols_prod_detl.d2w/report?prrfnbr=5340370&prmenbr=6970&type=big&thisMode=ols&cgrfnbr=)
Its well good, it has an RGB button, so you can set your dvd player to RGB and then switch it on and off to see RGB compared to S-Video - I agree with the postings above, RGB is far more natural looking, whereas s-video is sharper, but more fuzzy and the colours are not as good.
Also i use this box for my Dreamcast - as that outputs RGB only.
Also on this box you get audio out so if you wire that out to your amp, then whatever you switch on the box outputs to the amp, inc. the dreamcast, which has no phono outputs of its own.
I am using this for
1. Sky/VCR
2. DVD
3. Dreamcast
I highly recommend and remember if you dont agree Argos offer a 16 day money back gurantee.

I have the RGB scart splitter from Beyond Hifi (cost £7 or so) and IMO there is no loss of quality when using it. I use it for switching Sky digibox and PS2 (DVD is s-vid) and have had no problems. I thought about getting the automatic splitter but couldn't justify the extra cost :)
