Honest to God, I've not already decided which I want, so I'm completely open to suggestions! I'm looking for a dedicated scanner that will scan 35mm and medium format too. A few definitive responses should do me.
Cheers.
I had a v500 but sent it back as the scanning was a bit washed out and it kept on throwing errors on my mac :( (although I think RPG has one and he hasn't had any problems).
Recently got a HP G4050 (think it was released a few years ago, so quite old now), and it's great  The best thing is that, unlike most other scanners, it has a full sized transparency unit so I can scan any negatives up to the size of the scanner, whereas most others only go up to 120 (the scanner even comes with a 5x4 holder!). Might not seem to useful, but after spending a few days scanning 100's of my parents old 110 films, it's a godsend being able to lay out 20 strips at a time!

I've got an 8800f and I'm pretty pleased with it. Scanning can be slow though if you want to adjust the exposure for each individual frame, but I think that'll be the same for any flatbed. It was also a lot cheaper than a V500 when I bought mine.

Another thumbs up for the 8800f. I haven't tried a V500 to compare, but I am very pleased with my Canon.
Still getting on well with my 4490. Its an older model, but virtually identical to the V500 i believe. So if you can get one cheaper, go for it.
Main problem with it is dust. But if you want medium format at a sensible price, you've got to get a flatbed, and I don't think any of the flatbeds are any better.
Dust reduction is a useless feature. Its slow, reduces sharpness, gives some weird artefacting, doesn't get it all and doesn't work at all with black and white film.
