It's a real shame the GP games on PC have dried up over the years.

Modern graphics can really do it justice.

Geoff Crammonds GP3 or GP4 are the only worthwhile ones in my opinion and there pretty old now. Alot of people I know swear by the last EA F1 game that came out for the PC years back due to the modding community, I can remember it not being up my street.

I know GP4 is pretty hard to get hold of for a reasonable price, I sold mine after last years British GP for £40 on ebay.

f1 2001/2002 are both really good, published by ea but developed by isi, simbin bought the engine to make GTR iirc

gp2/3/4 as well.

GP4

Can be heavily modded. Lots of fan sites with free upgrades of tracks, car models and graphics, sounds.. even 2009 TV graphics.

I'd say rfactor, with one of the many decent F1 mods.

Yep rFactor, some of the free F1 mods are extremely impressive and I'm sure deliver a higher quality product than a commerical licensed F1 game would be. The CTDP mod for rFactor, although only up to 2006, has an impressive feature list. If a particular team/car had a certain aero part, or decal on their car for a specific race (i.e. a special sponsor for Monaco) it's in the game.

There are slightly less impressive mods for 2008 and 2009 but the CTDP mods for 2005 & 2006 are amazing.

Also if you get rFactor you potentially get an unlimited series of other driving games... you can download DTM mods, GP2 mods, Indycar, etc. Everything you could think of. Same thing with tracks, everything is available and free (although quality varies).
