Baby coming soon, need a HD camcorder

The wife is pestering me to get a camcorder due to the imminent arrival of the baby, but I haven't got a clue on what to look for :help: :?:

I know I want HD, and optical zoom, and something reasonably compact.
My budget is £100-£200

Are there any websites which I can input features and get a list of recent camcorders ?

Which manufacturers are good ?

Any pro's, cons on different storage ?

My tv can't handle 1080p, so is it worth not looking at 1080p cameras and going for 720p or 1080i ?

The TV you have today can't display full HD resolution but it will still display a picture. Any future TVs you might buy will almost certainly be HD capable so please don't rule out buying a 1080 camcorder.
