Royle Family Playback Query

Just bought a shiny copy of the much sought after Royle Family Boxset from HMV.

However to my disappointment upon watching in particular series 1 the playback quality is poor, in that the picture is not crisp it is as if I was watching it on television without a particularly good reception. I can appreciate it is not going to be digitally remastered quality but would have expected more!! Some what I am asking is has anyone else suffered similar problems/disappointment :mad:

Without seeing the DVD, the DVD was probably made like that.

Did you read reviews first?

I bought the three discs separately as they were released. I presume the HMV box discs are identical and taken from the same masters.

I'd put it down to the fact that RF was always a fairly low-budget production. It's always looked a little grainy and gritty, especially Season One, and I can't remember the TV broadcasts ever looking any more impressive than the DVDs do...
