Had my Samsung 42" 720p set for a few years now and looking to upgrade!

Am after a 46" or 50" 1080p Plasma, must be 100hz+ and support 24p. Looking to spend no more than 1k.

It will be used with pretty much all HD stuff along with the odd normal DVD:
Sky HD
Xbox 360
Blu Ray
Popcorn Hour+HD Files

The new Panasonics look very nice but are quite pricey so might be worth seeing if I can get a bargain on last years models? The new LG sets look like good value for money but there are some comments on image retention and not sure if the display would match a Panny for blacks etc?

Lastly I did originally have my heart set on a 50" set but some people have said this may be too big as my Sofa is probably just over 8 foot from the screen. What do people think?

Thanks for any advice:thumbs:

This was posted in another thread & looks like a bargain for a 46" Panny plasma - the 5 year warranty is groovy too & you'd have a quid left over from your budget: John Lewis Plasma (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=57&url=http://www.johnlewis.com/230489209/Product.aspx)

If predominantly for hd use, then you can sit much closer but you'll be stretching your budget if you want a "decent" full hd 50" plasma television (- only Panasonic do 46" plasma models).

The latest LG models have caught up a bit, but they're still not as good as even the previous generation Panasonic models IMO in terms of image retention or absolute image quality. If you can still find one, the free-sat less 46" PZ80 could be an option. Otherwise the model linked to by charlie angel given the peace of mind afforded by the JL warranty for not much more - the Panasonic TX-P46G10 being a new model is going to be over your budget.
