At the moment I have my Toshiba SD100E connected to my new panasonic PT AE100 via my s video lead. Ive been told that if I have a DVD player that does progressive scan and connect it via the component out to the component in on my panasonic projector the image quality should increase greatly..is this correct.

Thanks

From many many posts I have read about this, we all seem to be being told to scrap DVD players in general and hook up our PC's (Home Theatre PC) (HTPC) to these projectors to give a dramatic picture improvment.

Something to do with being able to drive them at an ideal resolution (or summit like that)
Sounds like ideally you'd build a small quiet dedicated PC with a Radion Graphics card for the Projector for best results.

Yup, its all about HTPC baby ! :D A £800 HTPC is as good as a £1000 DVD Player with a £800 Iscan Pro. :D

I find that hard to believe, I know that there's the improvement for projectors due to resolution issue but I tried a creative PC DVD player a while back and found the picture absolutely awful and that was compared to a Panasonic A100, which is about as first generation as DVD players get. I took it back after a couple of days.

The amount of interference and vibration within a PC must have an enormous effect on the quality of the available picture!

I would have thought a decent DVD player with progressive should be quite impressive, I'm using a Panasonic PTAE 100 with a Sony 7700 through standard component outputs and that looks pretty good. Though I intend to get (probably) a Pioneer 747 once the Pal progressive modified version becomes more widespread and cheaper.

I don't know about for projectors but I have an imported Hong Kong Pioneer DV737. I only had the option of S-Video or Component to my Tosh Wh08 RPTV. I used S-video for about 8 months before I went back to HK again and picked up a cheapish component lead. The difference is definitely noticable! Much sharper pictures!

Hrmmmm, from what every forum regarding HTPC says you should buy an ATI 8500 graphics card and use that for DVD playback and output to a projector. Apparently the image improvement is unbelievable.

neilaford, yes but you weren't using HTPC at its best. If a pc is being used to output standard svideo or whatever, it will probably be worse then a stand alone. PC's shine when the standard vga output is used(ie, to the computer the projectors just a moniter), which any decent projector supports. ATI's are traditionally said to produce sharper 2d images then Nvidia's, but have never seen them side by side to compare myself.
