I thought the 'Spinal Tap' was at the top of the tree, until i listened to the commentary on 'Used Cars' (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005UEQX/qid%3D1013799408/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F0%5F1/102-9887344-2909722).It has Robert Zemeckis (director)/Bob Gale (producer) and Kurt Russell, reminiscing, joking, making fun of people, etc. It's a total blast for almost 2hours.The film has been excellently restored by columbia,is cheap, and utterly brilliant. It's a must have disc . :)
..............one of the best ones I have heard is the commentary by Bruce Campbell on "the Evil Dead" Elite edition.
He jsut keeps on joking about all carrott juice they used for the fake blood.
Kurt Russell on a commentery is always good fun!
I was listening to the Almost Famous commentary last night, Cameron Crowe and his mam! Really sweet and funny...
Other funny ones...
Starship Troopers- Verhoeven's bug impression deserves a DTS re-release :p
Armageddon: Criterion Collection - Ben Affleck takes the **** out of cast and crew!
The Rock: Criterion Collection - Michael Bay's closing anecdote about Don Simpson is worth the price alone.
The View Askew movies - These are always quite amusing...
SPACED : Series 1 - Awesome (I'm looking forward to Series 2)
..and finally by far the funniest commentary track I've heard is...
A Room for Room Brass - Shane Meadows and Paddy Considine basically sit and have a chat while having to watch the film silent as Meadows couldn't set it up otherwise! LOL! Genius!
Clerks - Jason Mewes (Jay) passed out on the floor drunk:D
Goonies - all the cast just have a laugh
Futurama - Bender(John Di Maggio) just laughing at his own character
From Dusk Til Dawn - Tarantino and Rodriguez just have a laugh, tarantino is hyper through out the track
Big Trouble in little China - Kurt Russell & john Carpenter nuff said
Thing - same as above
League of Gentlemen 1 &2 - Cast take the **** out of themselves
Ghost of Mars - Comm better than the film Natasha Henstridge and john Carpenter, Carpenter spends the whole comm kissing natasha's ass

Cannibal: The Musical
Trey and Matt and the gang are completely drunk to start with, and get worse from there, the whole thing is a riot!!!
Trey calls the DP (not present) a "********** a**hole" and relays how he wrote the film around his ex-fiance, Lianne, who he found in bed with another man. In the film Lianne is of course played by a horse!!
Apparently there's another drunken commentary on the new Orgazmo Special Edition out soon!

Any of the Stargate SG-1 DVDs which have director Peter Deluise on the commentary track are usually assured to be pretty hilarious.

Anything by John Waters or HG Lewis is worth the price of the disc alone.
Both volumes of League of Gentlemen have essential commentaries.
Spinal Tap is impressive for being in character.
..and finally the commentary by the real-life eponymous anti-hero of Chopper.

Lol, i thought I was the only one who like this crap. Like you said, excellent commentary and glad to hear about the Orgazmo DVD.
After just hearing the spinal tap one today, that is probably the funniest, especially all there references to selling old guitars on Ebay :D ,any other commentaries with people in charcter?
League of gentlemen and Spaced ones are great too. Long live funny commentaries, and i wish theyd make one for the big lebowski, in character :D

Nope, I was gonna mention this as well as my fave - the film was silly enough before I listened to the commentary :D

Evil Dead II, Mallrats, Serial Mom, Ghostbusters, Cruel Intentions, plus others. :)
Commentary on Spaced was very very funny, they just talk about their own stuff most of the time.
Futurama was pretty funny, but somewhat lacking; they dont seem to talk very much at all, sometimes a couple of minutes will go by without anything being said :(
One or two will already have been said...
Drive is very funny - noone's got any ego's to boost and they're just there for a laugh, nattering and picking up on anything relevent or irrelevent that can be giggled at.
Big Trouble In Little China - old buddies John Capenter and Kurt Russel chatting about one of their favourite films after many years of not seeing it, and catching up as old friends.
Starship Troopers - Verhoeven is both intentionally and unintentionally hilarious. The bug impression has already been mentioned, and I still giggle when I see the word minnyaiytuurre.
From Dusk Till Dawn - Rodriguez and Tarantino are a couple of mates chatting non stop. Mr T gets very excited now and again :D "Haaahaaaaaagggguuuuhh they're tearing him aparrttt! You don't see THAT in Twister!"
Hmm my mind's gone blank now :o
The two that I found funny are From Dusk Till Dawn and Spinal Tap.
One of my all-time favourite commentaries is the one with Joe Dante and Jon Davison for Piranha.

Not laugh-out-loud all the time, but pretty amusing nonetheless:
The Simpsons Season 1, especially the Some Enchanted Evenning commentary
Toy Story 2
Final Destination, the actors' commentary
Antz -- "I hate to mention it, but they probably have the same mother, so now we have incest in a PG"
The Mummy Returns -- Stephen Sommers getting annoyed at Roger Ebert for giving the movie a low rating

Along with all the ones mentioned above (esp. Kevin Smith movies, LoG & Spaced), I thought the Father Ted ones are quite amusing too -- not a lot of straight-up laugh out loud moments, but I had a smile on my face pretty much the whole way through :)

Not quite DVD related but..
Anyone here who likes Bruce Campbell's style on the ED commentary should DEFINITELY get his autobiography/how-to book "If Chins Could Kill...Confessions Of A B-Movie Actor" Brilliant stuff!!!!

The funniest IS the R1 special Edition of Blood Simple.
The Coen's have created a fictional English film resteration expert who explaines how they cut out an entire subplot involving Bulgarian's. Created CGI flies to add depth to scenes. How he got some Wrestling films from a bin in Mexico and why he ended up in a fight with Nick Nolte.
It really has to heard to be believed.

I actually enjoyed Chasing Amy much more while watching it with the commentary (very funny) - don't know what it is with Kevin Smith stuff, but I just think he's so over-rated! He's not an awful filmmaker, as such, and some of his ideas are engaging - although he hasn't a clue what to do with a camera - but his dialogue sometimes seems very over written and unnatural, much too clever for its' own good! This is not what I expected from the somewhat ecstatic reviews he often gets. I've only seen 2 of his films, mind you (Mallrats being the other), so I may be judging him too harshly.
In any case, Chasing Amy is a very good, funny commentary.
More votes for...
Spinal Tap (with the cast in character) superb!
League of Gents - series 1 & 2
Bruce Campbell on the Evil Dead films with a bit of help from Sam Raimi
+
Kentucky Fried Movie - John Landis, Abraham's, Zucker & Zucker (4 old Jews on a couch, reminiscing! Not my words, blame Landis :D )
Schlock! - John Landis (again) & Rick Baker talking about the beginnings of both their careers!
The Thing - John Carpenter & Kurt Russell slowly getting...more relaxed while sipping drinks & smoking cigars!
And I must get round to watching Ghosts of Mars with the commentary....
Ghost of Mars - Comm better than the film Natasha Henstridge and john Carpenter, Carpenter spends the whole comm kissing Natasha's ass
Lucky bugger! :D

Definitely contains my favourite line in a commentary. I'm probably misquoting here as it's a while since I watched it: "Shane come quickly - Andrew's about to make Ben his bitch".
C.H.U.D. has a very funny commentary. All the actors do is point out all the flaws in the film and their own performances.
