View Full Version : In the Mood for Love
I've held out buying the French release of this disc for some time now, waiting until the Criterion release was out to do a proper comparison. However, I have just booked a trip to France for tomorrow and my resolve is weakening. What do I do - wait for the Criterion or pick up what I know is already a superb package tomorrow?
I don't know if I can link to other DVD forums but a certain US DVD forum has a thread called FAQ on In the Mood for Love DVDs which lists all the specs of all versions of ITMFL (tip: do a search for last 3 months). Or email me and I'll send you the link.
Or maybe if a mod can tell me if I can link to the forums?
EDIT: Looks like I'm a day late, ah well.

Well the creterion version is supposed to have all the features the french version has plus a new exclusive transfer and a full 50 min WKW at cannes documentary.
It won't have the multi angle feature of the french version though. (although I have yet to see multi angle feature myself).
The criterion also comes with a booklet that features the short story that influenced the film.

A review of the Criterion -

A review of the TF1 French -

My thoughts -
AFAIK IMO both have extras the other doesn't. I would personally choose between -
1. Pal or NTSC
2. Price
If neither are an option get either, as I already have the French Edition I won't be purchasing it as well.
3. Whether you don't mind French writing on your DVD Packaging.
4. The french cover is much nicer.

That hair!
TF1 Video R2

I feel it fits with the story much better, I personally prefer the French R2
Having said that there appears to be less extras than on the French R2 (compare specs from the two sights above). The French R2 has some really nice easter eggs to (although the R1 could also).
Having said that again the @ In The Mood For Love Documentary is excellent BUT was shown freely (if you subcribe) on FilmFour a while ago and maybe shown again.
If it is, tape it!
kcxdev what US DVD Forum website please?
try this (http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=168504). It was started before the criterion was released so I dunno if it has been updated. But its good to compare all the other regions :)
