I got this from ********* this morning. Great film of course with lots of in-jokes, movie and internet references. I found it interesting that not only do they put the running time of the main feature on disc 1 (104 mins) but also the running time for disc 2 (176 mins) on the back of the box as well. I think this should be done as standard instead of boasts about how many hours of extras there are (Shrek springs to mind). Can't wait to go through the extras.

I have Clerks, Mallrats, CA & Dogma. So its safe to say I am a fan of Kevin Smith. I have to admit though, I have never really been that interested in this film for some reason.
I know a few peeps that watched it and said it wasn't great so I'm unsure.

I have all the other films on DVD as well and if you liked them you'll almost certainly like this. Probably a bit more accessible to filmgoers who haven't seen the other films, as well as lots of references to the earlier films and other films as well. I liked it a lot.

The film is easily as joke packed as Mallrats, probably moreso. But I can't understand people who say they like it who haven't seen the others, there's far too many in-jokes, which is great for us long time Smith fans, the mind boggles for these poor fools...

Play wont ship this till around the 26th !

Its a decent film, with a LOT of in jokes, I saw this at the pics, and laughed most the way through, the lass I was with, did not get alot of the jokes, but still enjoed it.

WildWayz
15-02-2002, 21:24
I've only seen Jay and blah blah and Dogma - but I still understood most of the jokes and it is soooooo easy to tell when they are slipping in in-house jokes into the movie.

I still thought it was funny, vulgar and cool :)

WildWayz - if you watch the other films alot more things will become funnier than your first viewing. Just daft little comments and people, that you would not recognise, if you had not seen the other films.

Yer big ponce, get it ordered! :p

Mine arrived today from MT and i nearly collapsed when i put on and was greeted with a flickering screen...problem now sorted (dodgy wiring), the film it self is great...must admit the first few viewings i was unsure about it, but by the time i saw it at the cinema (Ahoy there Nathan-Wind :p ) it had grown on me...LOTS!

The DVD edition is fantastic with a shed load of quality extras you now come to expect from Smith, sad to see Affleck is missing from the commentary though :(. And as you're a fan SP7 this film is made solely for you, as only a fan would get the jist of this movie, it's just littered with in-jokes/refrences.

Just don't be expecting another 'Chasing Amy' (my fave) this is a more slap-stick 'Mallrats' type affair.

the deleted scenes on the 2nd disc are brilliant.. all ~90 mins of it :D with the deleted scenes from his other films i could see why they were taken out, but these ones are as funny as the stuff in the film i think :) i nearly wet my self when he was talking 'dirty' to the hookers

but that facial hair on mewes... ugh :p

Hello there yourself Silent Bob:)

I was unsure about how much people who weren't mad on Kevin Smith would get from the film, especially as I went to the British Premiere (not as glamorous as it sounds) and it was full of hardcore Kevin Smith fans, some of them even took Kevin Smith characters as forums usernames;) So it was the best place to see the film for the first time. But I looked all the in-jokes up on the Internet and as well as loads of references to other Kevin Smith films there is also loads of comic book references that went totally over my head (never read 'em) and I still loved it.
I think its one of the funniest joke packed films i've seen. I doubt anybody spotted and got all the gags on their first viewing. So if you're wondering whether to get it or not do yourself a favour and order it now. Unfortunately i'm still waiting for mine from Ringos.

A question to those who got it from ********* - is it the Dimension (US) release, or the Alliance Atlantis (Canadian) release?

Anyone found the "Easter Egg" on Disc 2 yet?

The DVD review of 'J&SBSB' over @ News Askew (http://newsaskew.com/dvd/jayandsilentbobstrikeback/) says.......

EASTER EGGS? (DISC 2)

I will say that the DVD does contain one single easter egg, which isn't too tough to find if you dig around a bit, though a fair word of warning - You might be sorry that you found it! It's cleverly but logically hidden. Happy hunting.

I've been through/watched everything on Disc 2 but not come across it....YET!?!?!?

I know exactly what you mean - the Alliance version of J&SBSB contain lots of French and English all over the packaging - why they didn't do the usual reversible French and English cover baffles me!

Just finished watching this on DVD - it was my first Kevin Smith film and I was very impressed -

I just loved the banter between Affleck and Matt Damon and I see where they got the Steve Stifler character out of American Pie now - he is a more mainstream Jay!!

Now to decide my next Kevin Smith movie!

The_Evil_Dean
21-02-2002, 00:17
The Evil Deans 4 step course to subtle Kevin Smith immersion

1: your next one should be Mallrats as it is in the same vain as Jay and Silent Bob and will heighten your apreciation for the always brilliant Jason Lee ( this was my first KS movie )

2: Chasing Amy something a little different more mature and subtle wills how you a different side to Kevin Smith

3: Dogma more Jay and silent bob with a wonderous 2 disc DVD a little heavy on the philosophy but I found it great and still do

4: Clerks the film where it all began ( on first veiwing of this I was underwhelmed but I will be buying the 10th anniversary edition ) brilliant dialogue and it is a slow boil it grows on you over time ( again in my experience )

there you go that should well and truely sort you out with Kevin Smith, if you suffer withdrawl symptoms there is always the clerks animated series

Is the Mallrats R1 SE also part of the recent price cut in Kevin Smith DVDs in the States?

Alanok

Not sure John. I have seen reports that the whole Kevin Smith back catalogue was going to be reduced but have only seen Clerks and Chasing Amy coming down in price for re-release at the end of Feb.

Loved that bit and also Mark Hamill's line "Don't **** with a Jedi Master, son" - just so funny and is also used during the menus on disc 1, in face, there are so many funny bits in it that my post would be stupidly long if I described them all!! :D

I coughed up a lung at Jason Lee's 'Wanna chocolate covered pretzel' line, but only Smith-oholics will get that one! :)

IMHO

Funniest Bit -
References to Ben Affleck and hookers

Worst Bit -
The whole scooby doo afair

Best Outtake, which should have been left in the movie -
Brenda? DICK!

I'm a Smith fan and have just finished watching this (got it yesturday from Play). I have to say it's my least fave out of all his View Askew films. It didn't make me laugh out loud more than a handful of times (unlike the others esp. Clerks) and the best thing in it was Eliza Dushku ( ). There were some very funny bits but it didn't seem the 'gel' as well as his other films, which although all different, I find v. funny. Maybe I'll grow to like this on repeated viewings.

Coz I get the feeling there will be some SE/CE/UE's coming out after the success of J&SB.

the R1 versions of all of them are already special editions with tons of extras. there is a new 10th aniversary of Clerks coming out in about 2 years though. so i'd go for it, you won't regret getting the US versions.. :)

also.. i don't think J&SB was that successful was it?

Yep, Dogma did better in this country, and I think in the US too. Plus J&SB had over twice the budget...

Yep, and like toot says the only one worth hesitating over getting would be Clerks.

I thought they were supposed to be around $14 now ?.
Cheapest I could find em is around £14.50.

Arch Stanton
23-02-2002, 21:24
In the world of Mr Stanton the one you should definatley get is Clerks then Chasing Amy.

Is worst film by a long way is Dogma. Infact they could use it in film schools as how not to make a major motion picture. ( too much dialog that slows the film down. Redundant charecters that don't add anything to the film. Dull direction. etc...)

All that and i'm still a Kevin Smith fan. :)

He posted something on the View Askew messageboard about how he was 'licking his box office wounds' post JASB release. Had done about $30 million dollars then IIRC...

Considerably better than Dogma, much worse than Amy I reckon (in terms of quality - not box office).

Looking forward to Jersey Girl though - apparently it's the anti-JASB, so hopefully it will be more like Amy.

He can shove Fletch Lives up his not inconsiderable backside though :)

Well I was kinda thinking in terms of DVD sales due to the amount of net nerds who love Kevin Smith films.
I get the impresion that this will be a big seller on DVD even though it didnt do that great at the boxoffice.
