I have had this for nine years it will be this coming August and its been excellant. If it were to break or I wanted to change it what would be a good replacement? I dont mind it still be an all in one system looking at anything between £200 right up to £1000

This looks reasonable

Sorry to sound harsh, but if your system hasn't broken, why spend up to a £1000, especially when that is likely to be a large chunk of your salary?

Well I was thinking of chaning my setup I want to get one of the Pioneer Plasmas Kuro range and thought after that perhaps look to buy a new sound system cause the current ones great but had it for 9 years fancy and change. I have no out goings plenty saved so its np

i got the same bit of kit many years ago. Heads up came off this forum - some deal in Currys/comet or something like that.

I have retired mine to the attic and like Masanevre am looking at alternatives.

What stopped me was the rapid changes going on at the moment with HDMI/HD etc etc.

I would hate to but something that is out of date before Ive leave the shop.

My thoughts were to try and get a setup which was a bit simpler ie simulate 5.1 but use a sub + front speakers only.

anyway, look forward to hearing more about suggestions on this thread

No outgoings?

What does it matter? He hasn't asked for financial advice, but advice on what sound equipment to buy.

Must admit, I'm in the same boat (ish)

Had the Digitheatre DTS myself for a few years though, but it gets very VERY little use. prob only turned on 3 time sin the past 2 years (that's what I call lite use!)

Anyone who'd come round has said WOW that surround sounds fantastic.

As in your case. it means pulling everything apart and spending (oh I dunno) prob 400, 600, 800 to get anything noticably better I'd guess.

Hence I still have it :)

Yep, my Digitheater DTS is in its 6th year, still going strong (by and large).

Not looking to replace it unless I absolutely have to - can't imagine there'd be that much to gain in a relatively small space.

I'll probably cry when it finally does break :(

I've still got my system too. It must be 8 years old now, if not older. I've been considering replacing it as I'm not sure it sounds as good as it use too, but I'm sure that is just me.
Problem is, living in a flat means that the subwoofer is set to its lowest setting so replacing the system probably won't help much with quality when I'm not using this one to its potential.

Oh, I've also disconnected the rear speakers as don't really have anywhere neat to put them. I'm guessing this won't affect the quality of the sound, I'd just lose the rear effects.

I also know this system as I very nearly bought one back in the day. You'll be amazed at how much things have moved on and how much better a modern system sounds. There is a lot out there right now so narrowing down whether you want a small sub sat system or a slightly more intrusive one that arguably delivers better sound is one decision you need to make.

In terms of future proofing, if you can pick up a system that will handle HDMI switching and supports HD audio then that is about as future proof as you can get. No recommendations here i'm afraid as I've gone the separates route...

I have PS3 so thats supports HD sound. So how does that work for the sound system, do I need a sound system that just supports or a sound system that decodes it or will the PS3 do that?

when you say about HDMI switching I would have the PS3/XBOX360 plugged in via seperate HDMI ports on the sound system and then it will have a HDMI cable coming out of it going to the TV at the same time taking the sound from PS3/XBOX via the HDMI decoding the HD sound and sending it out to its speackers? ?

I have PS3 so thats supports HD sound. So how does that work for the sound system, do I need a sound system that just supports or a sound system that decodes it or will the PS3 do that?Since you have a PS3 as your 'hd' source, there is no point looking for a home theatre system that can decode the latest surround audio formats itself, as apart from perhaps some future-proofing it's going to remain unused (- the PS3 does the audio decoding of these formats before outputing them over the same hdmi connection along with the video). Just make sure that whatever you buy supports multi-channel LPCM audio over its hdmi inputs - some systems only allow the hdmi inputs to be used for video switching purposes which means you would otherwise be limited to the core DTS and Dolby Digital audio soundtracks only via the optical digital output connection on the PS3 (although it has to be said these still should sound pretty good). Given your budget range, I would go with a separates system as it will be more flexible in the long term and provide you with better sound quality overall.

But if you want to stick closer to the lower end of your budget and have the convenience of an all-in-one package you could also consider the likes of the Onkyo HTX-22HD (http://www.eu.onkyo.com/products/HTX-22HD.html)(with the additional SKS-11 speaker package which upgrades it from 2.1 to 5.1) or Sony HT-DDWG800 (http://www.sony.co.uk/product/hcs-cinema-surround-kit/ht-ddwg800).

found this system for under £1000 now And looks suitable for the space I have 14ft by 10ft. I know the Blu Ray deck of this is out but it got an average review + I dont need it cause I have the PS3 to play Blu rays. Anyone got anything similar this size they could recommend?

Is this the Digitheatre DTS owners club? :D Mine is still going strong since i bought it in 1999

Like Tempest, it doesn't get much use nowadays, I can't remember the last time i watched a DVD through it let alone cranked it up in full DTS. It doesn't help that i've relegated the entire system to the corner of my bedroom so the full surround experience is kind of lost.

Still one of the best bits of kit i've bought despite the early niggles i had with it not playing DTS tracks properly. Amazing that it's still going strong to this day.

Isn't the Logitech Z5500 all in one jobbie supposed to be quite good?
