Just saw it too. Good easy going Saturday night stuff. Brad Pitt and George Clooney work well together.
Shame that Julia Roberts isn't on screen very much and Andy Garcia is getting a bit typecast.
Even Lennox Lewis appears... that bit part cost him the title, he was in Vegas "filming" instead of acclimatising to the altitude of South Africa!

I saw this film in the States last year and just thought it was great. Very entertaining and a suitably differnt type of remake.

I thought it was a fun film but just that little bit too slick. I'm guessing that this was Soderbergh's intention but it was just too flippant for me. Far fetched without being entirely convincing.
Oh, and the less said about <strike>Dick Van Dyke's</strike> Don Cheadle's accent the better. :)

Actually, that would improve the new version for me dramatically. It would leave more space for actors and character development.
I wasn't going to bother with the remake, but now perhaps...

Superb.
I thought Julia Roberts has just about enough screen time.
And personally I loved Cheadle's cheesy cockney accent. Ya Donut.
Great fun flick.

It was not a terrible film, but its a long shot from being great. Everything went too smoothly. Can anyone tell me why did Ocean get 3-6? What was the point of Mat Daimon's character? Guess I was expecting more from the director and the cast.
If Julia Roberts isn't in it much then I can probably watch it okay, I was afraid she was going to get a lot of screen time..

He got 3-6 for violating parole - he was imprisoned in New jersey, remember the phone conversation where he said he had no intention of leaving the state?
I thought Don Cheadle's accent was not bad especially the blank looks from the American's when using rhyming slang!

My thoughts exactly!! lol
Have to say I really enjoyed the film though. Watched it last yesterday lunchtime. It reminded me a lot of Out of Sight for some reason (which I enjoyed as well) so I think I will be getting when it comes out on that ickle shiny disc :D

Am I wrong then Baps as I was only going by J Ross on BBC1 and the few clips they showed.
Oh, and Brad Pitt said that it was not a very good movie as he would not make a remake of a classic movie.

2 questions....
Was that Alan Cumming who got caught up in the dog lead (the bit with Clooney and Brad talking in the bar - the Lobster, Santa Monica cos I was on hols there last September).
Why is Don Cheadle uncredited when everyone from the 11 seems to be?? I love Cheadle...
This film was everything i expected it to be. I had been looking forward to it since they greenlit it and i've not seen a good crime/caper/star movie in a long time. Great Friday night entertainment. And Baps i know you said a while back you don't fancy it, but give it a try. ;)
Cracking fun, i want the DVD now.
A mention for the great score by David Holmes, classy yet funky.:D
Saw it on Thursday with my girlfriend, back row type jobby.
But what I saw of it was good.

I did actually enjoy this a lot. I thought it was witty and funny but also very clever. I also thought it was good the way that the heist would not have worked without every single one of them:cool: One of the best films I've seen in a while:clap:

The original was a poor film - if it didn't star who it did it would be long-forgotten by now.
IMHO of course....

An explanation of the ending would be nice, specifically:
How did Clooney and Damon get the 10 bags worth of porn flyers in to the vault, i.e., the ones that went up on the lift and were carried out to the white van by the Casino guards?
Also:
The swat team were not shown to be carrying the real cash out. Andy Garcia was in the vault with the swat team and surely would have noticed them carrying 10 bags of money past him!
Maybe I'm reading too much in to it but if a film's ending is expected to be clever, it should at least make sense..... don't even get me started on Planet of the Apes (remake).

I'll answer your questions mate, firstly:
The 10 bags they brought with them, supposedly containing the SWAT team's equipment, had the porn flyers in them when they arrived. They simply took out the flyers and put in the cash. EDIT- WHOOPS, SORRY! Mis-read your question. But that is a very good point! Also, how did they get the bags on 'money' onto the lift? The only thing I can think of is the two guards on the floor must have had key cards to call the lift down. But I still don't see how they oculd have got the porno flyers before the SWAT team arrived.
and secondly:
The SWAT team had placed the bags with the real money in back in the lift/at the top of the lift - ready to be taken away. They did not pass Garcia with the bags, they were all nicely packed up before he even got there... that was what most of the SWAT team was doing while the 'fire-fight' was going on, passing the money back up the lift shaft. I think ;)
However, I've got a question of my own.... and this I think is a good one...
What was the point of the black briefcase? I am aware that it contained the jewel 'explosive device' thingies..... but why did they need to be brought into the vault in the brief case? If you note, the little Chinese guy brings with him the little silver disk-like detonator devices which he places over the jewels.... now if he brought them with him in the trolley, they why not the explosives too? There was ample room inside the trolley wiht the guy. There was no need for the brief case, nor for the old guy who 'dies' to be in it at all. Can anyone explain this?
And another:
Why, when the explosives blow open the door, didn't the alarms go off?? The alarms were working perfectly fine before the blow the door, because the Chinese guy was not touching the floor, but after the door blew, the alarm seems to be switched off. The bits of door flying onto the floor and through the laser beams inside the vault would have set off the alarms... weird
And yet another:
How did they know there'd be a space available for the fake trolley to slide into? A space means that there is supposed to be a real trolley there..... but where was the real trolley? Why did no-one check up on it, and why did no-one come down into the vault with the real trolley and say 'hang on a minute... we've an extra trolley here..'? If the other three trolleys were there, then the fourth should have been on it's way. In fact, why were the other three trolleys there anyway? shouldn't they have been getting filled with money from the various rooms? Afterall, it is prime betting time, fight night.
And another:
what was the point in handcuffin the briefcase to the old man's arm...... if he carries the smegging key around with him? Hardly a secure feature is it?
There is loads more nagging at my brain... but I'll leave it there... ;)

"So I guess I should put back those towels then."

I thought it was a great piece of entertainment, easily the best of the recent heist movies. You shouldn't go expecting more than Saturday night entertainment but as such films go it's near perfect.
I have to say though, as a Londoner, that Don Cheadle's accent was horrendous, far worse than Johnny Depp and Heather Grahams' accents in From Hell. I honestly thought there was going to be a twist and he'd turn out to be an undercover cop or something but no, apparently that is really how Don Cheadle thinks Londoners talk.

[This is me in here ;) - I think the whole idea of the briefcase was purely as a decoy, to lure Benedict away from his duties and keep the surveillence officers busy when (Carl Reiner) feigns illness

Me again - Wasn't this because Cheadle had let off the pinch before hand???
Don't know the answers to your other q's.:D
But i have a couple too........
This is probably really obvious but: were they not suppossed to rob three casinos??, was it me who only noticed the one being robbed??, i have a feeling i missed something here. Also not really a question but would those goons of Benedict really stay outside that room for the whole time Clooney is suppossed to be 'getting it'????
Still i'm not complaining bloody fantstic film.:D

Andy Garcia charecter owned 3 casino's that all used the one vault.
But after the pinch (which got clooney and damon down the lift shaft) systems were reactivated and acrobat guy still had to do his clever flip over the lasers....
Alsoif the video footage convinced Benedict the robbery was happening then, to allow the SWAT team in. Why did they even bother getting clooney, damon and acrobat guy in there when they could have nabbed the cash in their SWAT guise??
Great film though.....

I think...
...that the briefcase needed to be in there so the old guy can watch it being put in, allowing him to be in the control room to distract the staff while the video feed is switched from the real to the dummy vault.

To be honest I found this film to be very dissappointing, the plot was full of holes and the robbery didn't make sense, the characters were all 2 dimensional and there was no real chemistry between the actors. Oh and I think Don Cheadle's accent was supposed to sound like Dick Van Dyke, as a joke on the part of the film-makers, probably.

Nah mate:
The video feed could have easily been switched while the power was off for the short time. when the power came back on, the new 'fake' feed was piped into the control room instead.

But that doesn't work either:
Benedict would have been busy anyway with the fight. Plus they knew his normal routine anyway, and would have planned around it, but they didn't suggest that Benedict would cause a problem even if he would be around. As for the surveillence officers, why would the briefcase keep them busy? THe ones in the control room didn't need to be distracted at all since the only thing they might notice is the video feed being transfered, which would be covered by the power failure anyway. If Carl Reiner (the old guy right?) was never there, it would have worked better by not arousing suspicion, and then Pitt wouldn't have had to turn up with his dodgy hair. :)
Yeah, cool film though!

Just had a thought about a problem posted earlier...
I think this was asked earlier by pgroundwater, and he pointed out that it was basically impossible for Clooney and Damon to get the original porn flyers into the vault to be placed in the elevator for the casino gaurds to pick up and put in the back of the remote controlled van. However, I've just thoguht that there might be a deleted scene whereby the porn flyers are brought into the casino and placed in to the elevator by the EMU guys and Doc. Pitt when they come to see to the old guy being 'dead'. I don't see how they could have gotten them into the elevator themselves... but you never know, it could be in a deleted scene.. I don't see any other possibilities at the moment.
I thought it was well stylish, reminded me of Snatch for some reason.
