I understand this is out now at only £9.99. Does anyone know if it is anamorphic? The Region 1 disc isn't.

Is this the Mathilda May one, with the space vampires?

Yup and Steven Railsback and Patrick Stewart.
I didn't know this had come out on R2. Any reviews yet ?

According to Play’s info the R2 is a good 15-20 minutes shorter than the R1 and is also non-anamorphic.

The R1 version of Lifeforce, like the NTSC laser disc, has an extra 15 minutes of footage starting with an extended opening sequence. If the Play info is anything to go by then it looks like it's the standard version that's getting a release here.

Anyone watched this yet? Would like to know if it is anamorphic.

This demented pulp classic has to be seen in the long version so even if the R2 is 16x9 (as long as it’s the short version) the R1 is still the de facto choice.

As I understand it we've always had the longer version in the UK, the US had a cut down one. There are also some music differences apparently between the UK and US. From IMDB.com:

Original unedited European version contains more violent and erotic footage Tri-Star Pictures cut from the domestic version. It also contains the full Henry Mancini score in place of the occasional Michael Kamen music cues placed at the last minute for U.S. prints. This version is now available on video and runs 116 minutes.

According to the BBFC, the new widescreen version is roughly 15 minutes longer than previous video versions, so it's probably the complete version of the film. I have it in my briefcase and haven't seen it yet but the box states it's not anamorphic, only letterboxed.

The original UK theatrical release was the short version - the same as the original USA version. I know because I saw it when it first opened in London when it also credited Mchael Kamen for additional music. However, the long version, which reinstated all of Henry Mancini's music, was later issued on video in the UK. The packaging on the UK DVD lists the running time as 105 minutes so it seems likely to be the same as the R1 disc.

Actually 111 minutes. US running time is 116 minutes which is about right given the PAL / NTSC difference.

Hmmm...not for the first time Play gets the running time wrong - Don’t they realise they’ll lose sales over things like this?

Are we positive it’s non-anamorphic ie has anyone clapped their peepers on it yet?

OK, I've had a chance to check the disc out and I'm afraid it's definitely non-anamorphic. Still, decent picture for a 1985 release.

Thanks very much for the info. Obviously no point in replacing my R1 version then!
