Hi ive been looking around a few of the posts on this forum and it seems like everyone wants to make their dvd players multi region. The problem is that not all dvd players can be made multi region and this is really annoying if you have a dts system because most dts dvds are region 1 hence the problem. The other scam is why are dvds coded in region 1 available in the uk if all uk dvd players are only region 2. My point is that i think something should be done to let the manufacturers know that poeple in the uk want multi region dvd players. The only way to do this is by getting enough people together to create a pertition or somthing. I was wondering if there was anyone who would be interested in facing the manufacturers and lettting then know that we want multi region dvd players.
Thanks
yeh, but the problem isn't only with the manufacturers (if at all), its the film studios and distributors as well. Some manufacturers are with us on this which is why they put hidden menus and allow remote hacking etc :)
If you do some researching before you get your DVD player, it is that easy to bypass region coding that it's like the problem was never there.
But if you buy, say an unmodded Panasonic from Dixons then yes you will have problems - you need to pay to get your player hacked.
Just buy a hackable player.
The suppliers who distribute R1 DVDs in the UK distribute them because a lot of people have hacked/modded players.
The regionalisation of discs is far more complicated than just studios being a pain, it has a lot to do with the "extras" and the necessary copyright legislation/payment of royalties in each country that the disc is released in.
Thus US discs are usually choc-a-bloc with extras whilst R2 ones are bereft.
However, things are improving, especially with simultaneous release dates, and the studios willing to pump more money into international releases.
Things can only get better. In the meantime, we all need multiregion players :)

Yep - for now. But we will still need them - even if we do get all the extras. We still have the BBFC (http://www.bbfc.co.uk) and censorship.
Plus, it is usually cheaper buying from abroad, than in the UK... which is nice. :D
