I have a Sony DVPNS700 and am wondering if its wise to get it chipped to make it region free. Its only a few months old and still has most of the guarentee left to run. The other thing is that I'm in Dublin - does anyone know of anywhere that chips dvd players here?.
I'm keen to be able to get my hands on some region 1 titles
Thanks,
Mick

Well Mick,
I could find no-one to do the job in Dublin either.
I would suggest an upgrade:)
If you auction your Sony on e-bay or somewhere like that , it will go a long way on getting a better model that has already been modded.
Theres no risk for you as the buyer pays the postage and you don't post it untill you get their money.
As a forum member you will get good value from upgrade heaven-see the bargain forum for their sticky thread.
I bought from them before Xmas, a pioneer 646a and its just brilliant.
The only problem now is all the moola I'm spending on region one disks:nuts:
But then I can get to see them ages before xtravision have them, and shur I'll get at least half or more the price back if i auction the ones I don't want to keep, either here or on e-bay
hope that helps

"Just rent my upgrade remote"
But Steve:
Your T&Cs say 'will post in UK' only! Care to amend/elaborate? Will you post to Ireland?

Hi Mick,
Richer Sounds will chip your DVD player for £50 old money. I'm not sure if they will chip it if you didn't buy your player there tho.
Drop them a line tho - you never know...

Richer Sounds won't touch Sonys any more - "too many problems". I'd recommend you take megabytes advice, and get a player from Multiregion Magic (http://www.multiregionmagic.co.uk/)..

BTW they're in Blanchardstown :D
When I was enquiring about a Pioneer NSDV88, Peats said they'd do a MR one for me, but then I found out it was a couple of hundred cheaper with Upgrade Heaven and bought it with them.
