Taking Photos with Sun directly behind you

I been reading through various threads about polarisers and followed a couple of links, but I've yet to find any details on this, unless I've completely missed it.

Is filter still needed is this situation?

Probably a polariser as that is what he referred to.

A polariser works best at 90 degrees but it would still have an impact in the scenario you describe. It isn't essential by any means
