Just a quick heads-up that the new Dave Gorman fronted show, Genius, starts this coming Friday at 10pm on BBC2. I've been looking forward to this for sometime as the radio show was hilarious.

I used to delve into the generally humour-free humour slot at 6:30 on Radio4 for this, so probably worth a watch...

Well done I forgot about this...

I hate to say it, as I love Gorman, but... *****!

hmmmmmm yeah.
Always enjoyed Mr Gorman's stuff - got to admit I hadn't really paid much attention to what the show actually involved or its format etc but I certainly wasn't pleasantly surprised.
As a fan of Dave Gorman, watching a show where at least two thirds of it is taken up by "office comedians" reading out their wacky ideas and also, yeah ummm, Catherine Tate does not a fan make :|

It was poor timing though having the strange taxi driver who took people's shoes as deposits.

Sounds like all these people who love Dave Gorman managed to miss the radio incarnation of the show

If I had listened to it would that have made the television show less ****?

I love the radio show and I was very underwhelmed by the first tv episode. I did see one episode being filmed though, and thought it was brilliant when it got going (even though most/all the ideas were repeats from the radio show). So I'm going to keep watching it for this run of episodes, but my expectations have definitely been lowered.

Didn't know that the TV version had started, but the radio version was fantastic.

I wasn't sure whether it'd work as well on TV, and it's a shame if not.

I thought it was great fun, and very much in keeping with the radio series.

My only criticism is that the 'Genius trophy' seemed more impressive that the one i'd picture in my head during the radio show, and I'd quite possibly have kept the final voting with the audience

The taxi driver bloke was just plain embarassing - but other than that I enjoyed it.

Yeah I thought it worked well and was glad they didn't change the format much. It comes across as 'written' as the radio show, but it'd probably be **** if it wasn't so I don't mind that.

Just watched it, thought it was great - kept to pretty much the same format as the radio show which is certainly no bad thing.

Liked it although a lot of the discussion seemed quite scripted. Well worth watching though and will keep tuning in!

As a fan of the radio series (and all things Gorman) I was looking forward to this but it didn't work nearly as well. For starters Tate didn't seem to get the format that well, if fact it seems odd that of the 6 guests they have the 2 newbies to the show first (Frank Skinner next week) with luck the other 4 will get it better. I'm still hoping for big things from Johnny Vegas as his radio episode was very good indeed.

The very open plan of the set seemed too big, wheres the "shed feel"? Talking of sheds they did have a shed set for the Red Button bit which had my favourite of the ideas and yet got cut. If fact the whole feel of the red button stuff was much more like the show I'd expected and hoped for.

...and as for the Genius trophy.... smaller... MUCH smaller.

I quite enjoyed the radio series. Have to say the genius trophy was a bit of a disappointment. Had imagined it much grander. :)

Didn't they have a picture of the trophy for the radio show on the BBC website? It was a miniture 'FA cup style' trophy from memory.

Also, groaned when Tate walked out ("We'll give you a show, but we're choosing your guests") but she redeemed herself with that 'worms like you' line.

edit: I knew I wasn't making it up.. scroll down. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/comedy/genius.shtml)

What was with the "don't pan down" command to the camera man when Gorman was doing the "shoe test"? Was that supposed to be edited out? Wern't we supposed to see that they were both in fact his real shoes? Did I miss a joke here, as when he walked back to Tate you could blatantly see he had no shoes on...

Didn't work for me, felt scripted and over polished, you got the impression they had said the dialogue about a 1,000 times, it just felt all wrong.

Worked on the radio but for me a lead balloon on the TV, and was it more it did anyone else get the impression you could see more of the real Dave Gorman? He has a reputation for being an grade A utter utter tosser in real life and a nightmare to work with, I just got the little inclining of this every now and then.

Anyone know what happened between him and his old mate, I'm sure I read they fell out?

have to say i have now stopped my link for this.

I'm not sure what it is but i laughed myself stupid at the radio series but this..... is ..... ummmm....... just doesnt strike me as a must see whereas the radio series was a must listen.

Maybe its that imagination can conjure up much funnier images with radio.

Maybe its because a lot of the ideas used are from the radio series.

I'm waiting for the boy who suggested tetris the movie.

Well I'm loving it, listened to the last series on the radio, think I came to it quite late on the radio, and thought this should make it to the telly its hilarious, and am glad it has. Unfortunately I only ever see it get slagged off yet it makes me laugh each week, think it really helps if the genius is deadpan. That bed suggester wasn't, but the toture box bloke was and so was in himself funny and went on to win. Each week there seems to be about one who is actually funny and the other contestants aren't, although their ideas can be.

Am yet to see an episode yet, but just checked out a couple of videos on youtube, the 'infinite monkeys' and 'torture box' ideas. Thought they were great! Will see if I can catch up on the rest i've missed.

Have they done the puppy canon yet? That nearly made me crash my car when it was on the radio show.

Watched the Jonny Vegas one with the wrap-around bed cover and although the episode was amusing it wasn't that funny. I reckon Vegas actually hurt him trying to drag him round the bed, which was quite funny.
