Anyone see this programme on Yellowstone National Park on BBC2 last night (...repeated tonight I think), it was brilliant! This is the type of prog the beeb has always excelled at, natural history and beautiful photography...I have to say, I haven't been as enthralled by any program for ages but can't wait for next week's...the Bears have awoken!! :notworthy:clap:
...by the way, if you have BBCHD I bet this was stunning!!!
I thought it was excellent as well. In general nobody does nature programmes better than the BBC and I even enjoyed the Yellowstone People part at the end as well.
Some absolutely stunning photography to be sure.
& the fox 'diving' for mice was :notworthy
Couldn't understand why it was on BBC2 instead of BBC1 though. Was it due to the lack of David Attenborough?

I wanted to watch this but saw it wasn't on BBCHD. ANyone know if it'll be shown at a later date?

hey, when you've got this kind of quality bbc3 show (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00gwckn) for bbc1 who needs attenborough?:oh-hum:
i mean, i missed this tragic trashy dating show when bbc3 showed it, so i'm so pleased that it's being show AGAIN on bbc1.

edit - Wed 8pm BBCHD :)
I caught the back end of it and was impressed. Is it repeated? I don't have HD by the way :)
that'll do for me :)
Cheers
It was very good, shame there are only three episodes thogh. Next week's is about summer but there's only August when it doesn't snow so it can't be much of a summer really.
I hope they go into more detail about the Yellowstone super-volcano in the next couple of episodes because that thing is a ticking time bomb that goes off every 600,000 years or so and, here's the bad news, it is long overdue. Late last year and for the first few weeks of this year there was a lot of unusual earthquake activity in the area (500 earthquakes in one week) and some people were starting to think it was preparing for a big eruption. An eruption as big as the one 620,000-640,000 years ago would put so much ash into the atmosphere it would lower the global temperature by 10 degrees and put the world into an ice age almost instantly. It has gone back to sleep for now (http://www.seis.utah.edu/req2webdir/recenteqs/Maps/Yellowstone.html).

I seem to remember them saying every million years on average and that it had been 600 000 since the last so stop scare mongering :suspect:
Though they did say it could blow tomorrow.
Or in another million years time.
As to Yogi I take it you didn't read the first post to the end :oh-hum:

OK I've just had a look and the last three supervolcano eruptions were 2.1 million years ago, 1.3 million years ago and 640,000 years ago. OK so probably not quite overdue but due I would speculate.
There are comparatively smaller eruptions, but bigger than most other 'normal' volcanic eruptions that happen more frequently but they aren't the big "caldera forming" ones that the supervolcano produces.
edit - Wed 8pm BBCHD :)
Thanks for that.

Missed this but I will catch the repeat as it sounds pretty impressive.
Wednesday will be good on HD, as this will be on at 8pm followed at 9 by the last in the series of Natures Great Events. Just finished watching the sardine one there off the planner - fantastic programme.

...and the coyote getting that huge fish from the otters...we'd need a GPS system, thermal imaging cameras and a heap of excavation devices, he just sniffed it out and dived into the snow...nature is darn brilliant!! :notworthy:thumbs:
