looking for the best camera i can get for less than £100, must be digital and not film
camera is for holidays, may take football shots when my son is playing footie.
Have a canon ixus which is knackered, disappointed really as i havent used it that much and its screwed.
Todays Mail on Sunday's 'Live' supplement magazine tested 14 different digital camera's that were specifically all under £100.
The best one, in their opinion, was the Samsung L201 (£80) which they gave 5 stars.
Here is a link to the camera they suggested (http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=cameracamcorder&type=digitalcameras&subtype=lseries&model_cd=EC-L201ZBBA/AS)

Thank You
there's 4 great group reviews over at dpreview - look for HOLIDAYS-08 from REVIEWS on the left. Winners :
Enthusiast: (1) Panasonic LX3 (2) Canon PowerShot G10
Premium: (1) Fujifilm F100fd (2) Canon SD880 IS (Ixus 870 IS)
Compact: (1) Canon SD 790 IS & Panasonic DMC-FX37 (2) Sony DSC-T700 & Nikon Coolpix S210
Budget: (1) Panasonic Lumix LZ8 (2) Sony Cyber-Shot W120
The Panasonic LX3 seems to be the current darling, as a quality pocket camera for dSLR owners.
Personally, I'm a Canon fan, so would consider these current bargains and spend any difference on accessories (large memory card/s, decent case & poss extra battery) :

The guys at dpreview.com may have used a more scientific approach to selecting the best "Budget Camera".

My mum recently bought an 8mp Samsung for around £80 and blown up the images are crud.

It has been my experience that you get what you pay for.
Often cameras do not come from the factory with the best image quality settings. The resolution may not be set to the maximum and the compression may be set for small file sizes. To get the best from any camera set the resolution to the largest size (assuming this is also the native resolution) and set image quality to High(est), Best or Fine(est).
Avoid digital zoom, this can often be switched off in the setup menu.
^ - agreed, plus keep on ISO100 for best results (even with flash)
