My trusted Samsung 709 has started to jump certain disks that I play - some are completely unplayable, yet when I play them on my Lecson they are fine. I've tried a dvd cleaner to no avail. Is this the end of my Sammy.
At the moment I use the Sammy as my main player 'cos the Lecson is a bit noisy (I don't like being pu off in quiet sections of movies by whirring noises). Has anyone got any suggestions as to what I can do?

There have been numerous threads with regards to problems on the sammy 709, the main problem is that it is prone to overheating which causes the problems. I myself have been through 2 of these players and some disks still skip. Some owners have even been known to fit a fan inside the player to cure the overheating prob.

1st of all, make sure that the dvd player is not on top of any other device which causes a lot of heat output, i.e. an amplifier. Try to isolate the player and position it in an area with lots of air (i.e. not in a closed cabinet).

On my current player I have major probs playing vcd's where they skip, i managed to cure this by tiliting my player forwar by about 30 degree's. I think my laser is probably out of alignement, hope that helps.

most common reason for the sammy skipping is heat build up - so if you have it in a cabinet with closed glass door this could well be your problem - some people have even had to take the top off their sammy altogether to dissipate the heat - give it plenty of air and see if that helps :)

I think you guys have a point - mine sits on top of my amp (obviously a big mistake) - I'll try a cooling method.

Thanks for your replys.
