I have mordaunt short alumni speakers, at present they are on the stands you buy for them, my questions is would it affect the sound if I was to buy the Lack display unit here: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00103748 and place the front speakers in them so I dont need a stand, or would this affect the sound etc? Same question for rears too I suppose?

The Lack stuff is very lightweight (the shelving we've got is practically hollow!) so it will affect the sound quite dramatically, I should imagine..

Yea thats what I thought, I already have a lack unit like the one in the link but dont use it for the speakers, mind you the stands for the speakers werent cheap and I'd feel like i wasted money buying them to not use them.

I should imagine vibration and stuff would be an issue with the lack.

If you've already got a lack unit why not try it out. Put one speaker on the lack and one on a stand and then using the amp flick between L/R to see if there is a noticable difference.
