Anyone know if this was released or was it R2 only ? Pretty sure I read it was coming out in R1 awhile back but can't find any info on it now....
Its the 70's TV Film with Kirk Douglas about the USS Nimitz travelling back in time to just before Pearl Harbour...
Also has anyone heard of a future release for By Dawn's Early Light at all ?

Go here (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/showthread.php?threadid=39164) and here (http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=164796) for the bizarre and tortured story of this movie in R1. I believe this’ll be released in the States right about the time monkeys fly out of my butt.
I ended up buying the R4 a few months back but I'll certainly be tempted by the R1 if it does appear and is a longer cut as is rumoured.

anyone know what the quality of the region 2 version is like?
I caught this on ITV a short while back and really enjoyed it.
Would be interested in getting it if the transfer and sound were decent at least
at least play.com are only doing it for £4.99!!

mr_woo the R2 is pan and scan and should be avoided like the plague as this was shot in 2.35:1.

That’s weird - I’d definitely read that the R2 was full frame. Guess I should have done more checking around.
Does anyone have this yet and confirm the ratio and the picture quality?
I have the R4 which is widescreen but not anamorphic.
There is a new R1 edition in the works, but going by the occasional discussion on DVD Talk and The Digital Bits, the producers keep missing the release date. Not sure what's going on with them, but it is coming. Long time since I saw this movie, so will hang on for the new disc in the meantime.

I've got the R4 version and the picture is really crap for the first 15 minutes with loads of digital artifacts and it's also really grainy throughout most of the film. definately one to avoid and if the R2 any the same then the R1 is the only hope of a decent transfer

region 2 (actually region 0) is slightly better than the r4 but not by much.only £3.99 at branches of music box.region 1 is out but apparently only available from the distributors themselves-think it is a movie only disc though...

If it's only available from the distributors then surely it's not out?
Can anyone confirm whether this is out in R1 yet?

From just that website...
THE FINAL COUNTDOWN . . . SOON TO BE RELEASED ON DVD AND VHS!
The Final Countdown—starring Kirk Douglas, Martin Sheen, Katharine Ross, James Farentino, Ron O'Neal, and Charles During—is about the world's largest aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Nimitz, with its awesome nuclear might that goes through a time transition to the hours before the attack on Pearl Harbor.
PFE will be releasing this feature film on DVD and VHS within the next few months at the price of $19.95 (DVD) and $14.95 (VHS), plus tax and shipping and handling. Presale orders (only!) can be placed by calling toll free: 800-804-8009 (within the U.S.) or 714-736-7279 (outside the U.S.).
Gonna send them an email to see what's going on...

Just got this from Play today and maybe it’s just my eyes but the image looks slightly stretched horizontally. Anyone else getting the same thing?
What did you get?! R1 or R2?!
