Yeh, I do most of my DVD buying on the net, because of price etc. but dont you find its better to buy them in a shop? I cant be the only one who spends literally ages browsing the DVD aisles repeatidley incase ive misssed a bargain :D And the satisfaction of finally picking a DVD, even if it is for buyings sake, IS a fulfilling moment, it almost feels as if youve worked for it.
Long live highstreet DVD stores. And HMV is certainley the grandaddy.
Yeah.
I went to Makro last week - I scanned the cheap section. I was going to buy a disc - but it had 4 hours on a dual layer disc.
I'm glad I didn't - it would have been a poor quality DVD anyway.
And I don't need or like the shops much anyway.

I'll check the aisles a few times - mainly due to the DVDs being all over a place and not where they are meant to be (not alphabetically sorted, or they'll have the "2 for £22" in with the "3 for £27" etc)
However, I am always wondering if I could get the disc a quid or two cheaper online.

i only like to browse the high street simply to actually check out the packaging and stuff.. i'll only ever buy if it's a special offer.. but i see what you're getting at, there's some satisfaction in working at it.. if i was rich i'd love to just walk in Elton John style and fill my basket...
but you've got to admit there's an equally satisying joy from recieving a DVD in the mail, makes you feel like a King being served on!!

I probably bought about 10% of my 220 odd DVD's in shops. Some are special offers but most are pure impulse buys. There's nothing to give you the courage needed to go through the weekly food shopping at Tesco's at 6am on a Saturday morning (I'm an early bird for shopping. I hate the crowds on week-ends) like stopping for a few minutes in the DVD section and discovering that a shiny new DVD with lots of extras is out.
At that early hour, my ability to resist purchase impulses is at its weakest. So I treat myself. :)
Online, I usually buy at least 3 or 4 DVD's at a time (usually on the continent for cheaper R2 prices) so my purchases are more thought out. I'd probably not have bought Final Fantasy online like I did at Tesco's but I'll be glad to watch it one of these days.

I don't think I've ever bought a single disc from high street retailers unless they are on special offer - you just get robbed blind at the prices they charge!
I think the only time I bought one in a shop was when I first got my player and I wanted something quickly to try it out with. I don't think I've bought a DVD or CD in a shop for at least two years now.
Agree Mr F - Only bargains are for me in the High St.
I remember getting my new computer on a Saturday morning and rushing out to Tesco's to buy both The World is Not Enough and House on Haunted hill (House on Haunted Hill went straight back - not a good film).
Since then the only other times I have bought on the highstreet were misprices.
Thinking about it, I have never bought a disc in a shop unless it was in an offer of some sort!

i love buying from a shop, nothing better than picking up a DVD take it home, rip it open slam into player.
i hate waiting for deliveries.
but than again, prices are cheaper online, so i buy online most !
Never bought a single disc on a UK high street. Got two discs in Carrefour (Calais) because they looked better than the UK discs, i.e. Goldeneye and Taxi. Unfortunately the latter didn't have English subtitles, so it hasn't been much use! Sold Goldeneye when the SE's came out.

Just went today and used the buy 1 get 1 free offer in MVC, picked up Raging Bull and Spinal Tap for 20 quid, not bad. But like others have said the prices are ludicrous. 90 % of the DVD`s are 19.99! And Snatch at 25 quid? Still, i couldnt help myself.

When I was a teenager (so long ago) I loved to spend hours trawling record shops looking for bargains... now I don't have the time, nor the inclination. Is it me, or are record shops now horrible places? The inevitable LOUD music usually blanks my mind completely and I lose all sense of liking anything. It takes about an hour after leaving the shop before my brain recovers and I remember what it was I wanted. If the noise doesn't get me, the astronomical prices will!
No, for me, online shopping is the only way to go: check out prices, read a few reviews; have a coffee, then blast in the orders : bliss. Then the equally delicious anticipation of the disks arriving - even better when they are pre-orders!

If you're the patient sort who can wait a few months after the release date, you can buy all your DVDs from High Street sales and never need to pay much more than £10 for one.
