Pathe are going to be distributing it in the UK - which mean we might see it on a big screen :)

I suspect the R2 DVD will be released by the time it makes it to cinemas. Not that I'm complaining :D

The Japanese R2 is (apparently) due in June - but a subtitled version (aparently) already exists - so perhaps it's not that far away :)
Now on the other hand it all depends how wide a release it gets - but I'd love to see it on a big screen (am seeing Totoro at the cinema this Saturday).
For anyone interested Spirtited away trailers can be found on www.nausicaa.net (included some subtitled versions)

Well, considering that the QFT are showing nearly all Miyazaki's films this month as part of the Ghibli season that is on tour, chances are that it could easily make it to Belfast if there is enough interest.
I was so happy when I read about this over at the AnimeonDVD forums :) Lets just hope Pathe do a decent job of distribution with this title...
Out of interest, after my short news-piece for DVDTimes (on the front page) regarding this news I received an e-mail that simply said...
> was long feared would end up in the not-so-capable hands of Disney.
Isn't that an unnecessary low blow?
The sender also included their name, and I'm going to reply shortly but I wondered if anyone else thought what I said was wrong/in bad taste?
Personally, my immediate answer to the rather blunt question is NO...but thats just me :)

Perhaps a little explanation as to why Disney getting it (may have) been a bad thing - after all most people won't know the back story. Therefore when they think of Disney they think of packed special editions (Toy story,Tarzan etc), and may have seen your comment as simply Disneybashing

Thats true, although i'd end up ranting if I included that kind of info in the newspiece, and tbh I don't expect many people who don't recognise the name of the film to read it anyway...and those that do recognise would probably understand.
The guy who e-mailed me works for Nausicaa.net - maybe i'm just to open with what I write? :D
Frankly if it wasn't for the outstanding work Disney do on their domestic catalogue i'd be slamming their name at every opportunity, not for what they do to Anime so much, but for what they do to every piece of foreign cinema they pick up!
see! i've started to rant :D

Fair enough then - I wasn't sure what background the person who contacted you had, and I guess that kind of negates my explanation

I guess they could either feel that ranting doesn't have much effect as the fans are written off as a bunch of ranting fanboys, or that you should be happy that we might get to see it at the cinema rather than being down on what might have been
anyway I wouldn't worry about it, life's too short to worry about the contents of every email you get
Anyway - will there be a co-buy if Sen gets a June DVD release with English subs ?
Phil
:) I'm a ball of rage when it comes to Disney and foreign films :D

ssssshhhhhh! Last time someone asked that everything went crazy and i had near $1000 worth of orders on my hands :D But yes, i'm definitely on for a co-buy with this and any future Ghibli title....though next time i'm probably going to keep it within the current co-buy crowd depending on interest...so no posts of interest here for now ;)
