I posted earlier about my faulty k10d and i've sent it back to pentax. Their estimate arrived this morning and its not good.

They want £145 to repair the memory card reader which seems excessive and only carries a 6m warranty.

So i decided to look at what a new body would be. They K10d seems to be hard to get now and the 20d body is still very expensive.

I stumbled accross the sony A200 whilst looking at the alternatives and it seems a pretty good camera, with a feature set very close to my K10d. I wondered if anyone had any experience of both camera's and how they compared? Trying to keep costs down at the moment as we are saving for our holiday to Florida in July

I only have the kit lens and a zoon lens for my pentax. I could sell these for arround £100 and pick up the sony for roughly the same price as repairing the pentax. Obviously i would lose the zoom lens for a while but could pick one up whilst in America.

Any thoughts would be welcomed

If you went for the A200 you'd be spending more £££ but ending up with an inferior camera (in comparison to the K10D).

I know it sucks to spend money on repairs as opposed to something new and shiny!

The viewfinder.

Sony : Pentamirror at 0.83x magnification
Pentax : Pentaprism at 0.95x magnification

I'd see that as no contest really as that's the thing you use for each and every shot.

Had a feel of the A200 yesterday in my local jessops and based on build quality alone the K10d wins by a mile.

Looks like its repair time.
