May as well get a league going.

The format of the league is the same as the Pro Evo ones of old:

2 x best of 3 round matches (99 sec timer) (doesn't matter who hosts to be honest)
3 points win
1 point for draw
Number rounds = goal difference.
ie. if one person wins match one 2-1 but loses match two by 0-2 then he lose.
If both win 2-0 then it is a draw.

<s>Enter the draw and I will do a RANDOM draw out of the hat for your character which you have to use</s> You can chose any character but must not change it throughout the league. People who chose Ken, Ryu or Sagat are gh3y.

On entering, please tell me which of the characters you have unlocked as it will impact the draw. (you can edit this as you unlock some)

I will be up for this but i do think that assigning a character to each person will really restrict the fun element here.

Part of the fun of the Pro Evo leagues was me playing with Sampdoria against all the Barcelonas :D

Also, the REALLY good players can cope with any character :lol:

The picking of the character sounds fun! There are only 2 characters i'm any good with, so will give me an excuse to learn another :)

That actually is a very good idea so you get to play with a number of charactrs and you are not stuck with one that you simply do not get on with.

Interesting idea, but you can't really have fighting tournaments/competitive games where it's all random. Fighters are about mastering a character. If you can't beat Ken, go to practise mode and figure out what works against him. I think if it's a comp we should choose the character we're best with.

But moaning aside - I'm game either way, so put me down for it. I've unlocked all characters 360, need to unlock Seth on PS3.

Yeah I can't really see myself/some people going for this. I understand it's a league system, not a knock out tournament as such, but playing with a completely unknown character with completely different move set to your main character cannot be compared to playing with a different team on Pro Evo. Maybe a choice of 5 characters per player should be put forward and force a "squad rotation" where you can't play with the same character for 5 weeks effectively resting your main for that period of time.

Think I'm going to go for Gouken as my pick, when is the start date likely to be? And is the one character limit final?

Was thinking another semi random way of dealing with the picking of characters, everyone picks 3 characters, each of which is assigned a number from 1 to 3 and on "match day" an independent party random rolls 1-3 picking the character for each person. Now you could just chose Ken, Ryu and Akuma or something similar but I think there are now actually significant enough differences between them to really alter how you play with them - for example I'm not particularly good with Ryu or Akuma but can play with Ken quite well despite the similarities between them. Just a thought anyway, might spice things up a little without totally leaving it to lady luck! :)

Seriously man no way as far as I am concerned. Some of us have spent years (literally) refining and improving the way we play why should we be punished just because others haven't? We might never get our mains so it's hardly a test of skill more a test of luck.

It may sound harsh but what is the point in having a main or mains if you cant actually use them outside a relatively small chance on a random select?

I guess it how you like to play, usually when i play with my group for friends we like to do a first to 10 but using different characters, I can't say I am good with all of them but it does become a good laugh.

Playing for a laugh then yeah I agree - I always play with a good range of characters and rarely select my main(s) as anyone that has played with me will vouch for but playing in a league to win? I want to do my best and that means playing with a character of my choosing not getting lumbered with someone like Dan who is inherently weak or Zangief who is strong in the right hands but who I am personally terrible with. Or equally having your opponent hindered in the same way is an unsatisfying way to win.

Torn between Akuma and Gouken tbh. I love Gouken's high health and good counters, his control of space isn't bad either but he lacks a dragon punch. Akuma on the other hand has uber low health but some nice escape tools and again good control. Dunno, more comfortable with Akuma probably but one lapse in concentration and it's generally all over for him. Will practise more! :)

Sorry about that guys. Jan to March was my busiest period of the year at work, and made busier by some unforseen issues. Something to with with tax, megabucks and do it or get fired stuff that you guys don't really want to know about :D

Anyway, I'll hand all this to the Toger.

I will join in as it is better now.
