I can get the Kenwood KRFX-9050 Amp/Receiver locally for just £250. Trouble is, I can't find any test reviews of it anywhere. It just seems too good a deal for a THX certified piece of kit. Any comments?

You won`t as its very old! £250 could buy you the current favourite in this price, the Marantz SR4200 with Dolby pro-Logic 2. Kenwood AV amps used to be very good (I owned a KRV7030 back in 1991!), but the last 3 years they have been only average, but bargains for the money when picked up form Richer sounds for £150 :)

Ive got it and i think its very good, loads of connection options....the THX business doesnt do that much that i can hear though...maybe just smoothes things off a bit :)

If it's the KRF-X9050D then it does have DPL2 and it's not exactly very old (less than a year I think).
While it may noy be the best receiver around at it's RRP, for £250 I really can't see you doing much better for that kind of money.
Sure, straight stereo music may not be that great compared to similar priced stereo amps , but let's face it, despite it's reviews, neither is the SR4200. (but then which AV receiver is?). That said, it'll do an adequate job for most people.
It doesn't have 6.1 capability, but then which receiver does at this kind of price.
Go and have a listen, and if it sounds good to you, then snap their hand off (you can be fairly comfortable in the knowledge that your £250 is very unlikley, in reality, to get anything any better).

There's a test of the 9050 here:
http://www.homecinemachoice.com/testbench/Amplifiers/Kenwood/KenwoodKRF-X9050.shtml

doesn't mention the "D" suffix, so I don't know if it's a different model.

It is indeed the 'D' version with DPL2 de-coding. Thanks for the replies, I'm going for this today at the princely sum of £249.99 as a replacement for my DTS DigiTheatre. Obviously I'm purchasing new speakers and sub also! I'll report back soon.
