A friend of mine sent me this today;

You need another reason?!!! ;)
Remember, Sky if they want (but probably won't due to complaints) can:
Stop you recording certain programmes
Stop you fast forwarding adverts on recordings
:rolleyes:

Although sky have categorically denied that either of these will ever happen - and i seem to remember that its not legal of them to stop you FF through the ads (don't ask me why - i have no idea - i just read it on digitalspy yesterday)
Saying that, get a tivo unless you have sky - it's got the edge over sky+ (which i have) unless you are a sky subscriber.

I have Sky Digital and bought a TiVo. Why? It has still got a MASSIVE edge over Sky+. Plus, the new software is available from next Monday. Read The TiVo Thread for more information.

It still doesn't do the one essential thing Sky+ does, record one Sky Channel while watching another. For most Sky viewers this makes the choice a no-brainer!

I disagree entirely - which is why i bought sky+ over tivo, they are very different things - with sky+ the most important thing is i can watch one sky channel whilst recording another, which is it's big (and i agree only) boost over tivo.
If tivo could do this it would be unbeatable - but it can't. Suggestions and the like are all very good - but theres already more tv that i want to watch than i have time for - without being given a bigger list.
And don't bring that whole thing about how with tivo , i'll never watch live tv again :p

Fair enough.
But I have a TiVo with lifetime subscription for £399.99. Plus a 2nd Sky box for £12 per month. Sorted. :D

the register LOVES to scare monger IMO, what they print and what is reality is two different things.
they no doubt had to put the programme block on to keep some people happy, ie big PPV people etc. even though it might not be used, it does need to be in place.
