the book packaging on the new ED looks fantastic, but is it really worth buying for worse pic quality, and few more docus ?

im still thinking, maybe ill buy both since R2 can be bought quite cheap.

where can i pick up the Elite edtion for a reasonable price AND with only a Switch card ?

The picture quality looks fine to me, and I last watched it on a 43” telly! You have to bear in mind that there’s an absolute upper limit to what you can squeeze out of a low-budget 16mm film that was mostly shot in poor light, so a certain amount of grain and similar blemishes is absolutely inevitable.

As far as I’m concerned, the Elite is the only current disc worth taking seriously, as it’s the only one that respects the film’s original 4:3 aspect ratio. The Anchor Bay ones may have been Sam Raimi-approved, but fans of the film are rather less happy with the cropping.

Nowhere! www.dvdmod.com have it for about £24 & www.Interdvd.co.uk have it for about £27

If you can borrow someone else's credit card though (& promise to pay them back, natch) Amazon.com were doing the Elite for $12.99 plus postage - works out at roughly £14

Find it here (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000G3Q4/qid=1013613387/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_2/103-6490587-1318267)

Well, I have only watched Evil Dead once before and that was last year when I borrowed the video of a mate!
So, any picture will look good to me.

As long as both regions are the same in everyway R2 looks to be the winner!

Yep, Im going for the book R2 too.
I would rather have the WS ratio, especially as you can see wires at the top of the screen on the 4:3 version.
The extra features seem impressive too.

If you already own the Elite then I'd say there's no reason to buy it again, but for someone whos yet to own a copy of the evil dead, the R2 book is the way to go.

Sadly, for ED completists.. the R2 has lost some pages from the booklet supplied with it... (From the R1 version)

Yep, I'll be getting the R1, despite being more expensive, it'll accompany my Elite copy better.
It's a great idea producing a nice package that resembles the book from the movie, but the red circles will ruin it !

Seen any piccies of the R2 ?
It may be that the certification symbols are only put on as stickers like the Godfather sets, or would this be against the law ?

Just checked Play and HMV and theres no mention of discovering evil dead

The DVD is presented within the pages of The Book of The Dead which has been sculpted and illustrated by Tom Sullivan, who created the Necronomicon, dagger, and other special effects for the original film
US Trailer
Audio Commentaries by Sam Raimi, producer Robert Tapert and Bruce Campbell
'Fanalysis', an all new 26 minute documentary by Bruce Campbell
Theatrical Trailer
TV Spots
Talent Biographies
Even more material is accessed by ‘easter eggs' which lead to previously unseen behind-the-scenes' footage and deleted scenes

Looks like R1 for me

Well, my copy of the R1 Book of the Dead has shipped from *********, so I should have it soon. I'll let you all know if its any good - personally, I've got the Elite version, so I'm just wanting this one for the neat packaging, different sound mix, new docs and to see what a difference the cropping makes.

Have to admit, I have only been half bothered about this one. That was until this evening when my shipping notification came through as well :D

Hope its worth it!!
