I don't really want to post spoilers.

Just to say, 2 of the best 24 episodes ever.

Seconded. Not often I do this for any telly, let alone 24, but I'm going to watch these again.

They really were amazing. Can't believe it's only half way through the day!

Loved Jack's obligatory sleeper-hold on the Grey Fox - surely a move that has to be included on the bingo board, as it usually gets a few outings a season?

Also loved just how easy it was to break into the White House - thought they were going to come up through the front lawn fountain at one stage

As a side-note, just how tall is Candyman? My estimation is 8ft.

Brilliant television.

Loved the look on Bill's face when the senator asked him, while they are bring held hostage, what he was thinking.

These two episodes were pretty definitive statements for the need to favour the use of torture over due process, given these specific circumstances. Vintage 24.

That bit was a bit , the drill wasn't exactly that big and then the next shot there's a hole big enough to fit Rik Waller through.

Great TV though, I did let out an audible 'noo' when Aaron got shot. I know they'd be mad to kill off such a loved character but after the S5 opener I don't trust any of the 24 writers

As a side note, I must have missed this news Cassar to leave 24 at end of season (http://www.tv.com/story/12619.html?tag=show;latest_news;title;0)

My exact thoughts for the entire 90 minutes while watching this episode :
Awesome

Two best episodes of 24 in ages, just pure constant (immediate) tension and action.... love it...

Even had a geek off too at the beginning !

"Dammit Bauer what have you done" ... funny coming from that guy !

So ........ errrrrrrr ............ neither Aaron nor miserable daughter had a mobile phone on them that they could have quietly texted the FBI on to say "come back in and get us" about 20 minutes before the torch hunt? Or was Candyman supposed to have knocked out all simple cellphone networks in the DC area too? Why bother with the torch hunt anyway, just get to any room with a window and flick the light switch on and off to pass the morse code message. Oh Aaron you disappoint me so.

I wonder if 10 Downing St has that many useless security services staff standing around waiting to be shot.

Gripping episode apart from those niggles though! lol at Bill getting knocked out by Jack :D

Bloody brilliant stuff, actually feared for yoga bill's life when he went gallivanting about with the tracer.

I was going to say something similar to what LouBarlow said, the obligatory sleeper hold and the accompanying, "don't fight it!" should be on the bingo board tbh haha.

Oh anybody reckon that Special Agent Freckles is going to waltz off into the sunset with Jack at the end of the day? She seemed a little too concerned when she saw his name on the list. Whatsisface partner of hers (can never remember his name) knows he is going to lose her to Jack too.

I'm guessing that Candyman might not be around for too many episodes. They made a big thing of the "shipment" that John Voight is waiting for, and how Duma's men could easily "render it useless", "within a couple of hours". So obviously the "shipment" is going to come in to play within an episode or two and Jon Voight will be the real bad guy for the rest of the series. I'm guessing the "shipment" isn't going to be a bumper box of wispa bars ...

24's executive producer Howard Gordon has confirmed that romance is on the cards for Jack Bauer and Renee Walker.

Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) and Walker (Annie Wersching) have grown close while working together to stop terrorists and uncover traitors within the US government in the current season of the Fox drama.

"They have established the emotional framework for a relationship that I think we're going to see manifested in the eighth season," Gordon told TVGuide.com. "It's definitely part of our plan."

"It's not a romance in the traditional sense of the word," he continued. "It's a lot more broken and jagged than what you might imagine."

24 is awesome.

What is Jackie planning? Don't tell me he walked the Mrs President to her death without some kinda plan??? Hopefully bloodied Aaron, guilty (to Jack) Bill and Jack himself can karate chop Juma and his men (or something more sensible) at the top of the next ep.

Jon Voight is brill, too - not just Tony Todd. Wicked how he can sound such a nice man but be clearly evil.

Thought Bill was gonna be killed; I don't think it worked Juma freeing him and deciding on hostages right at that point, but it would have been sad to lose Bill before he's had a shave.

24 is awesome.

That is all.

Those episodes were so full of win, it's unbelievable.

Amazing stuff - ridiculously silly at times - just how we like it - amazing amount of tension. I must have had my breath held for large sections of the second ep.

A really superb job that a show can create near-constant tension and excitement over ~45 minutes.

What a series so far - remember that last season was also great and action-packed to the max before hitting about half-way when it went as flat as a pancake...here's hoping this one holds out and continues in the same vein.

At least for the moment: Essential TV.

Not had time to do the bingo board yet and there's a LOT to say about these episodes, but I came crashing back to reality when the news flashed up at around 38 minutes on the second episode with the heading "White House Under Seige".

"Seige"? I mean, really. Steven Seagal wouldn't have settled for that ****.

Awesome episodes though. More soon, bingo fans!

Episode 11 wasn't bad, but it actually looked pretty average compared to the episode that followed it. One glance at the bingo board would show you that it was pretty much by-the-numbers build-up with all the usual gubbins thrown in. There were some excellent bits in it though, mostly due to unintentional humour including:-

- President talking to Admiral Smith, yes, that's "Admiral Smith" who I will address as "Admiral Smith" after every few "Admiral Smith" words. Ok, Admiral Smith? The fact that he looked and sounded like John McCain was the icing on the Admiral Smith cake.

- Jack doing a sleeperhold. Again. On one of his friends. Again. Whilst saying "don't fight it!!". Again. Still, it never gets old. One day, he might steal a crafty snog as they pass out.

- Chloe being "out-geeked" and Jack finally getting called a "rogue" operative. Cracking stuff.

- Intricate maps all layered over a completely pointless drawing of ThE WhItE HoUsE!!!!!111 just to ram home the point.

Bingo board:

http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/4401/24s7e11bingo.png

Jack didn't get a kill, Dubaku snuffed it, and Candyman managed to get into the country despite being one of the world's Most Easily Recognised Bad Guys.

Best moment: Jack tasering the phone whilst the president was talking to him :notworthy

Episode rating: 7/10

Episode 12 was a near-perfect example of how 24 used to be throughout the first series. Gripping, tense, and fantastically well-paced. Character development with Yoga Bill was awesome; I had a feeling he would turn around and agree to torture Burnett, but he seems to be the only one untouched by Jack's increasingly disturbed world view. Good for you, Bill. Heart in mouth moment when he put the tracker on, I thought it was going to be major character death time, especially after making it through the last few series unscathed. I then had to go through the same trauma again watching Aaron. The writers really know how to ratchet up the tension in chase/hostage episodes like this, and it's credit to the recurring support cast that they invoke such strong feelings. Everyone knows that Jack is invincible, but if any of the co-stars that have been around for a while cop it, then it hits home. I'm not sure I'm going to like episode 13 :(. Juma was shown to be a smart cookie, especially when talking to Agent Hovis (). Shame it looks like Juma isn't going to be around for much longer, if Voight is going to take over as Ultimate Villain.

Other points of note:-

- Jack giving his word to Bill that he'll do as he says.

- President turning into Handy Andy.

- Jack getting a kill, and going into "DAMN IT" overload.

- Jon Voight's great manipulation of events, spoiled only by overacting at the end when he screams "LET'S PLAY SOME DARTS!!" and then lobs one at the board as if he was chucking a shot putt.

- As mentioned in an above post, proof-readers who can't spell the word "Siege". Should be one for the Public Spelling Blunders thread...

Bingo for episode 12:

Jack Bauer kill count (so far): 14.5

Episode rating: 9.5/10 ... is this the pinnacle of the season, or can they top it?

Best moment: Pretty much anything in the episode.

Oh it does!
I'm still laughing at the episode with the classic
"The list of subjects is....urgh!"
"Damnit"
sequence from last week!

This one was full of cracking laughs - starting with the Evil Foreigner's magic 1 second drill (that looked like something out of Star Trek - were those perspex coils around the drill bit?). That drill bit must have had a BIG taper on it - it went from two inches at the tip to what looked like a 3 foot eventual hole in a single second!

And how come they can't design a panic room? Seems to be a theme this season. They should get to people in who did Jodi Foster's one. I think her's actually had a phone in it!

09-03-2009, 22:13
Why did Jack decide to go it alone at the start and kung-fu chop Mr Guard and grey Fox? Just seemed like a really weak reason for Jack to get himelf in cuffs.

Oh and the Bingo Board has a slight mistake. Tony Todd was on Star Trek several times playing Worfs brother Kurn and other parts.

Yeah - this season is sailing very close to the wind when it comes to its right-wing viewpoint. They keep ramming the "torture's a good thing" mantra down our throats right along side the "foreigners are bad" shtick.

The relationship between the FBI Agent and Jack has echoes of Hannibal and Clarice in the book Hannibal. Jack's going to bring her round to his 'by any means' point of view before the end.

By far the best two episodes of the season! The writers/producers/directors have clearly learned their lesson from the awful season six.

Good to see Alex Gansa writing episodes - he, along with Howard Gordon, wrote some of the best episodes of The X Files, so to see these two working together again is good.

I read somewhere that they start filming season 8 May - glad to see they're taking it so seriously to plan it so far in advance.

Thought it was good to see Agent Walker on the back of that speed boat - I think she should get out of those wet clothes before she catches a cold! :n0rty:

Wow... Unbelievable... I can't believe the levels of love for these last 2 episodes!

Now I've been a fan since the beginning, seen everything bar the last quarter of S6 but I've been watching S7 from the beginning and been thoroughly enjoying it so far but I thought they were the worst episodes of the series! I mean truly awful. I mean I felt sick watching it.

And now reading this thread I think there's something wrong with me. But from the little things right through to the big it seemed every time something happened it the episode in my head I was saying, that would never happen, he'd never do that...

I mean every once in a while you sit there and go that'll never happen but its fine, it's 24 it's supposed to be silly and exaggerated but seriously it felt like every five minutes I'd be like that would never happen, that person would never do that and it just kept snowballing in my head one decision on top of another making me feel angry at how ridiculous it all was.

I thought I'd come on here and find at least one person that thought they'd pushed it too far but now I'm scared. What has happened to me in the last week to ruin 24 for me? Is it a temporary thing? Will I ever be able to enjoy the show again?

Please, someone, just one person, say that even for 24 it was a little bit silly and I'll feel so much better.

I thought episode 12 was very corny, the President is willing to sacrifice the lives of the Americans on the planes that crashed and also willing to sacrifice more lives at the chemical plant. But the slightest whiff of torture to her daughter and she gets Jack to open the panic room and surrender to the Candyman WTF ?

I did think it was funny that Agent Freckles could outswim a speedboat though and fail to pick up the radio & gun from the trooper that Dubaku Jr shot !

Just caught up with these last night. Generally very enjoyable, if a bit silly in places (but we're used to that).

One thing I didn't quite get at the time - why was Jack so nasty to Bill, or was that just a put-on so Bill wouldn't be responsible for Jack's actions? Did I forget something Bill had done in the previous episode?
