??? Possibly £162 or £199 with a game you can pick up for less than a tenner?
The price of these are falling quite quickly. Could there be a new version soon?

No. Definitely not this year.
Maybe it is old stock - being replaced by Jasper versions.

That sounds sensible but I wonder how clever the stock systems are at littlewoods etc to know the difference between the consoles with old chipsets and the new jaspers.

I crumpled and ordered one - great price (using the £30 discount)
The Jaspers are only in Acade atm though are they?
Well the Red 'Resi Elite' is goint to be a Jasper model so guess there could be non resi one's out there? Although I dont know anyone thats got a Jasper Elite yet.
According to the interweb the Resi LE XB360 Elite is a Jasper.
Doubt these will be though.

Does it really matter though - if it dies, you get a new one, most likely a Jasper?
Guess not, unless Jasper's are significantly quieter/quicker?

Why would they bill tme back??

they will do this when the vouchers have been abused, ie people using them who should not have done so.

It does allow for it in their T&Cs ...
2.3 Promotional codes are codes that enable customers to obtain benefits such as discounts, free delivery and free gifts. These codes are non-transferable so may only be used by the person to whom they are issued and must only be used in accordance with their terms and conditions of use. If you use a promotional code to claim a promotional benefit, you must first check that it was issued to you and that you are eligible to use it. By using it to claim a promotional benefit you will be confirming that:-
(i) you are entitled to use the code;
(ii) you meet all the conditions that apply to its use;
(iii) you agree to the terms set out below.
If, before accepting your order, we find that you are not entitled to use the code or do not meet all the terms and conditions of its use, we may reject your order or alternatively process it without the promotional benefit being applied. If, after accepting your order, we find that you were not entitled to use the code or did not meet all the terms and conditions of its use, we may reverse the benefit that you obtained. If you transacted on a cash basis e.g. by debit or credit card, we may take a further payment, equivalent to the value of the benefit obtained, from the card used. If you transacted on a credit basis, the value of the benefit obtained may be charged to your credit account.
2.4 Should you wish to cancel your order or return any goods, please go to the Returns section for further information.
Nevertheless, the credit card transaction is for say £150 and that's the bit you've approved. If they want to charge more, you should have an opportunity to decline the order.

They are sneaky sods, they charge the full amount to your card and then credit back the voucher. Good time to "lose" your card so it has to be re-issued ;)

Okay at the risk of sounding (more) ignorant (than I usually am), apart from the 120Gb HDD, what do I lose out on if I buy an Arcade version instead of this? Tempted with getting an XBox, but as I'd only be using it offline is there any reason to go for an Elite?

02-03-2009, 18:42
If you want a black console then that is the only reason for getting one. My 18 month old Elite went wonky the other day in that the fans went mental, so I went out and bought an Arcade and bunged the 120gb hard drive onto that. The Arcade versions are technically superior component wise to the current crop of Elites' anyway as you get an improved GPU (Jasper revision instead of Falcon) and the disk drive spins quieter.

Thanks.
Don't care about the colour, just want something that's as reliable as possible! I was just making sure there wasn't anything else missing in the Arcade model - as far as I can tell the internals are pretty much the same (i.e. Arcade doesn't have reduced functionality)?
I'm just starting to get my head around the Jasper/Falcon versions, and the Arcade model seems to be the way to go to get a better chance of buying a 360 with the Jasper chipset. However it still looks like it's a bit random whether I'd be sent a Jasper or a Falcon. There are reports that people who have bought online recently (from, e.g., Amazon.co.uk (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=8)) have been sent Falcon versions. Guess the only way to be 100% sure is to buy from the high street and ask to inspect the unit (for 12V current rating) before handing over any cash.

If you look through the little hole in the box (where the s/n is) you can just about see if it's 12.1a or 14.2a
Comparison of the consoles here ... (http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/hardware/comparisontable.htm)
So, the elite has more cables, the headset and a 120gb HDD over the arcade.
My Elite turned up but the corner of the box is bashed to buggery and looking inside, the case of the 360 is pretty badly chipped on the same corner :(
Going to have to ask for another one.

You don't even need to do that as the box will say 256mb on board memory whch defines it as a Jasper.
FFS. Useless.
They are collecting the item tomorrow but won't do a straight swap out. Instead, I have to wait 14 days for the money to be refunded and then re-order :|
Think I'll stick with my existing Premium or get the Resi 5 Red one :D

That's really strange - my box was bashed in one corner too, but the contents looked OK - no damage externally anyway....
Will have to wait until tomorrow when I can kit it up and see if it survived...
:suspect:
BTW Falcon kit too..:(
I thought the Arcade model doesn't have the backwards compatibility for Xbox games. :?:
LOL - now I try to re-order one and the price on the webpage is £179 but adding to basket is £189.
Don't think I'll bother.

Ta! Just the feature comparison chart I was looking for - who'd have thought it was on the manufacturer's website? I must try harder next time, I must try harder next time, I must try harder next time... :dork: Strange it only explicitly mentions HDMI for the Elite though.
So the HDD is mainly for using original XBox games and Live content? Don't need it for game installs (c.f. PS3)?
I'm thinking the Arcade option may be better for me - can connect via HDMI (loads of spare leads hanging around), don't have any original XBox games, not an on-line gamer, and I sure as hell don't want to talk to any 11 year old internet idiots via the headset. Or am I missing something?
LouBarlow
03-03-2009, 07:33
You are missing out on half the fun of the system if you don't have a headset for engaging with the 'wonderful' cheerfull people you meet on Live.
you can install 360 games on the HDD now too. You still need the disc to play but it saves wear.

I went for an Elite as my current XBox is on it's last legs (I've performed the towel trick three times now to keep it going till wednesday lol) and I thought it was a very good price considering how expensive the HDD's are alone.
Do you still get the data transfer kit, or am I going to have to use my current 120GB drive on this?

I think you have to weigh up whether you need a HDD as £45 for the HDD plus other bits you get on top, is still good value.

I agree, it is still good value (although personally I can't see the headset getting any use in our house!).
One of the main things that's stopping me ordering from Littlewoods (or on-line in general) is that I want to make sure I get a Jasper console, which isn't guaranteed unless I get to peer at it first.
Yeah, I know, I'm really bad for dithering. I take ages to make my mind up on important decisions (unlike the "Will you marry me?" question which I dimly seem to remember all those years ago came out spontaneously with very little consideration beforehand).

Apart from a little less power consumption, what advantages does the 'Japser' version give?
can you not connect the elete by VGA? comparison chart seems to suggest not

ANY of the 360 consoles can be connected by vga.
Despite new consoles now having an hdmi slot, they also still have the original av connector, which you can use for component, vga, scart etc.
Mine arrived today, looks rather good and the controller feels really good (haven't played anything though) currently letting it update.

Allegedly (and I use that word cautiously) the Jasper version may have resolved the Red Ring Of Death problem. I of course now await a barrage of replies along the lines of "No! Have a look at all these problems with Jasper...".

That may not definitely mean it's a Falcon - sure I've read that early Jaspers shipped with a 175W PSU. Check what it says the current rating is on the console for the 12V (12.1A means Jasper).
