View Full Version : RGB through Component pass-thru and Panasonic Projector

I've got a question here, it's possible I could be completely confused but here goes!

I'm intending to get myself a projector next week (the new Panasonic one that everyone's been raving about) and obviously I dont want to be running miles of cables from every piece of equipment to the projector so I'm intending to use the signal switching from my amp (Denon AVC-A1D), I need to connect my DVD player (Component), Tivo (RGB), Video (S-Video) and X-Box (Progressive Scan Component). My amp has component pass-thru connections so is there any reason why I cant get a scart to 3-Phono cable and use that to feed my Tivo RGB output into the amp and use the same cables as I'm using for to take the component signal to the projector? I'm assuming that as the amp is just passing through the signal it doesn't matter whether it's component or RGB. Obviously I realise I'll need to use a seperate cable for the S-Video signal.

Also, how about the projector, does it use the same inputs for both the RGB and Component signals and just switch between them or are there 2 seperate sets of inputs?

Saw one of these last night, really impressed at the image for the cost. Will be getting one of these shortly.

Have a look at www.avforums.co.uk in the video projector section. At least half a dozen threads are going on this bit of kit at the moment so that is probably your best place to get some answers.

Can't see why it won't work.

pretty sure you cant do this... RGB Scart and component output are not the same thing (though they are close).

if your Tivo has got s-video out then use that, or alternatively go through an rgb to svideo converter to route it through your amp.

presume you have a sky or set top box of some sort to connect as well... unless they are looped through the tivo?

just component, svideo, composite and vga inputs on the projector.

Yes I realise I got confused about the inputs on the projector, I read something about RGB and assumed it was standard RGB, but it appears it was to do with RGB input for a PC. So looks like I'll need a convertor (or just use composite, yuck!). Sky is looped through the Tivo so that wont be too much of a problem.

thought as much...

it is possible on some projectors (the Sony HS1 supposedly but no actual cable available yet)... pretty sure the Panasonic doesnt though.

best getting an rgb-svideo converter and loop all your scart devices together...

there is meant to be an rgb-> component converter coming out soon though... have a look at www.rgbtosvideo.com (correct address I think) which is John Sim's website... he did all the original converters which people are selling.

Sorry, I misunderstood the question. I thought you were asking if you could switch 3-cable RGB in the same manner as 3-cable component. I missed the bit about conversion somewhere along the way!

No, Neon, you were right, that is what I originally asked, it just turned out that the projector didn't actually have RGB input anyway, hence the need for the convertor!
