I have a VW 2000 Golf with the factory fitted car stereo - the FM frequencies appear to work ok but annoyingly the AM frequency doesn't...It sounds fine for awhile but then cuts out as if there is no reception / aerial attached. Yet at these times the FM sounds ok which leads me to think the there's nothing wrong with the aerial...
I've taken the headunit out and all the leads look fine. I've tried it with another headunit and the same problem persists so the fault doesn't appear to be with the headunit.
I seem to remember I had a similar problem when I replaced the same factory fitted VW radio in my 2003 Passat with a new sony unit and had to buy a separate amplifier to plug in the back...but the current problem is with the same VW headunit so can't see why there would be an amp problem?
Any ideas as to why everything else on the headunit seems to work ok but not the am radio?
