Forgot to set the *cough*VCR*cough*. Anyone know if it's getting a DVD release? Just finished watching and thought it was fab. So fast paced and gripping. Have there been any other quality adaptations done that are worth seeking out?

Also, I'm sure Lara Belmont is going to be very famous soon. A great start in The War Zone and now slowly starting to appear in lots of quality stuff.

I am absolutely gutted - Crime and Punishment is one of my favourite novels and the first I heard about this BBC adpatation was this post of yours. Sounds like it was good too... I really hope a DVD release is forthcoming, as I can't believe I missed out on this one... :(.

To be fair, I've never read the novel, so, you might be disapointed - but I doubt it. Although part 2 is still tomorrow night, as a stand alone piece of drama I haven't seen anything this good for a couple of years. Tony Marchant adapted it and it was everything I have come to expect from him. Really solid, comtempory, moving, dark stuff.

Catch Part 2 tomorrow night pmdf, If you are familiar with the text you'll have no problem catching up.

Cheers dunkrag - glad to hear I haven't missed all of it. I've just been searching for info about the adaptation, and the fact in was actually filmed in St Petersburg - which as a locale is so central to the book - means it's definitely a must-see. The photos on the BBC site look really intriguing too.

There are several film adaptations of the novel, but I've never yet seen one - always been curious to see how a film-maker would attempt to capture Raskolnikov's mostly-unspoken musings on camera. Needless to say that, seeing as you enjoyed the adpatation, I thoroughly recommend checking out the novel - and if you're really keen then also Dostoevsky's Notes From The Underground and The Brothers Karamazov which explore similar psychological territory, albeit from very different angles.

In the absence of an imminent DVD release, I would expect to see both parts repeated on somewhere like BBC Choice in the next few weeks as appears to happen with a few other programmes.

If the BBC can release Pride and Prejudice, and all the other comedy discs, no reason why this one can't be released in due course. Hope they make a good job of it if they do.
