Does anyone know of any sites showing the oscars online this evening? I dont have sky movies.

oscar's homepage seems to mention a live telecast. Anyone used this before?

I can't see any mention of a live telecast but if there is one you can bet that it will be restricted to US viewers only.

Is it only on Sky? I was looking through the freeview EPG briefly and couldn't see any mention of a highlights show or anything.

I tried looking around earlier.. couldn't find anything. So I can watch it from bed I've rigged up a solution. I've put the sky box into a capture card into the downstairs PC.. used VLC to stream it to the laptop. :D It doesn't look "great" cause of some resolution problem somewhere... but it's watchable. I would offer to re-stream it to one other person.. but that's probably against some forums rules.

I only know of "unofficial" places to watch online. Not an issue for me as I have Sky, but the hooky streams are out there if that's what you're after and you're a pleb. :p

It's madness, the Academy has been whinging all week about how viewing figures are down year on year, well it's not surprising when they keep insisting on selling the international rights to channels that many people don't have access to. Especially insulting that it's only on Sky in a year when Brits stand a chance of getting a bunch of awards.

If Sky had any sense they would have opened up the channel to all freesat and sky subscribers without the movie channel just for tonight, along with a couple of good movies earlier on, and treated the whole thing as a loss leader to get movie fans over the whole country tuning in to them and maybe deciding to sign up tomorrow.

Well that would actually be clever and "out of the box" thinking. Not something Sky are know for.

He was a stage actor before he became a household name movie star. He was VERY highly regarded playing Curly in a lengthy run of Oklahoma! at the National Theatre in London opposite Maureen Lipman years ago :D

That was a superb opening by Jackman.

The acceptance speeches have all been pretty good so far. A good mixture of humour and heartfelt thanks. Much better than the blub-fests to come.

I'm hoping that (if Kate does win) she's taken note of all the ****-taking and criticicism and is going to keep herself together this time.

It has been a much better show so far than the last couple of years. Looks like the new production team was a smart move.

Stiller is awesome!

Really? I thought it was a pretty lame parody. Very half arsed.

Nice to see Steve Martin being funny again though!

More musical magic from Hugh Jackman but I've no idea what it's got to do with this year's films! They've definitely gone for a generic celebration of cinema this year.

She liked a few things! Bill Maher, Jennifer Anniston

Not a bad show so far this year. Heath Ledger shouldn't have won though.

Urgh! Even having live singing over the dead peeps doesn't stop these morons from clapping. :oh-hum:

In Memoriam bit was badly done. Should have been full screen, without Queen Latifah, and I agree without muppets clapping just the ones that are well known names.

Almost certainly Slumdog Millionaire for best picture now. I can count the number of times the best Director Oscar has gone to someone who didn't direct the best picture on one hand.

Good night for Slumdog.

Overall very predictable apart from Best Actor, thought that was Rourke's.

Three disappointments for me..

The singing and clapping over the dead people section. Not very respectful and very tacky. The camera was swinging about with shot switching all over the place. Why rush through then try and squeeze some entertainment into it!

The second: Adverts... award.. adverts.. adverts.. award.. adverts adverts.. award.

Then the other was Rourke not getting his award.

Don't think much of the Oscars tbh but found myself really annoyed that Penn got best actor over Rourke - both were great performances but come on Mickey was much better.

Not if it's done in front of millions when your accepting an award in order to tug on the heart strings.

Smells a bit of prima donna to me.

Obviously watched videos of the "great" acceptance speeches (Tom Hanks and the like), and thought "I'll have some of that".

I would be a bit emotional too, if I had not won anything like that for 13 years of trying.

chris21
23-02-2009, 16:17
Maybe, yes. It would be annoying to hear my comments if you knew yourself that the tears were genuine. And if they were (which we'll never know) I take it back. (She IS an Actress!) It's just a bit sad to see Kate appear to be on her way from the talented actress in Heavenly creatures to the next Catherine Zeta Jones type.

"You Love me!".

I didn't see Scorsese crying for The Departed and he was trying for 34 years;)
